Cruise ships in Weymouth Bay

Our bookings are up 600% believe it or not. Our regulars want/need a holiday and some cheap prices too!
I'm genuinely surprised by that. I know the Diamond/Ruby Princess weren't exactly typical given how many ships are out there, I'd have expected people to be a lot more paranoid. Are they bringing in new health measures for passengers and crews?

So am I!Are they bringing in new health measures for passengers and crews?
The princess vessels were an exception, it was staggering!
Overall, the public health requirements on here are very high, much higher than a restaurant at home for sure.
Sanitation will be kept at a higher than normal level, screening to take place before boarding, monitoring etc.
Also looking into one way systems for catering and such.
It's a big change for us, but we'll be ready.
I joined on Sunday, had my forehead temperature checked and recorded, my bags doused down in an antiviral disinfectant and made to wear PPE as I was escorted to my quarantine cabin. Meals are delivered to me 3 times a day and we have decent signal for 4G. I also have a phonecall every morning from our medical team who check on my welfare and ask for a quick temperature check for their records.
I'm bored, but I have PH to keep me sort of sane!

I just watched Arcadia go past Seaford from my roof terrace, she's heading down channel and Marine Traffic says she's going to Weymouth so it looks like you'll have some more company soon.
It also looks pretty crowded in Sandown Bay at the moment as there's half a dozen cruise ships parked there as well as a few tankers and cargo jobbies.

I'm not surprised to be honest. My parents are avid cruisers (always go on Azura) and despite nearing their 70s they would go tomorrow if they could on a cruise. Fills me with horror, but each to their own! My sister was due on Iona in July to Fjords which has been cancelled now and she is desperate to rebook!
My parents are due on a cruise with P & O on 18th October, which is a re-arranged one. Not sure which ship, one of the adults only ones. They are desperate not to go!

See the story of the other ships sat without work - and the volume of oil : https://gcaptain.com/the-worlds-smartest-oil-trade...
Not really sure I understand the article. Presumably the total capacity available in oil tankers is limited and hasn’t increased due to the crisis. I assume the total capacity is broadly twice the amount that has to be shipped daily, in the assumption that every day you’ll have one tanker full and another empty returning to fill. So unless there were lots of empty tankers sitting around with nothing to do the total amount of oil in tankers today is only going to be around twice what’s normally in tankers?Chrisgr31 said:

Refineries dont want oil bringing to them.
Oil prices crashes.
Oil storage onshore is filling.
Oil Tankers are then 'repurposed'. - to instead of moving oil around the world from Oil production locations to refineries and consumers - to become huge floating storage tanks.
See above not of Oil being cheap as chips ? Some oil brokers bought it at buttons, but need to store. So storage in tankers.
I can go on...

Lol sorry, Done some googling now and it appears that the world wide fleet of oil tankers has a capacity of about 568 million tons. However I assume, possibly incorrectly, at anyone time around 50% of them will be empty. This is because they have unloaded at the refinery and are returning to the producer. No one has been consuming oil.

It appears you get about 4 gallons to a ton, so shipping capacity is around 142 million barrels which is around 1 1/2 days of worldwide production. If half those tankers are usually empty then the additional world supply is only about 3/4s of a day production.
Which doesn’t seem that remarkable or is there something wrong with my assumptions?
