Cool pictures if you're into RN "small ship helicopters"...

There's a series of 15 photos available to view here... https://helioperations.co/blog/heliops-welcomes-wa...

Westland Wasp HAS Mk 1 XT420 (G-CBUI) at the former RNAS Portland (HMS Osprey), in company with AgustaWestland AW159 Wildcat HMA2, Serial number ZZ517. The Wasp is operated by Navy Wings and was built in 1964 (and is, apparently, a Falklands War veteran embarked aboard HMS Hecla in the CASEVAC role), the Wildcat is currently in service with 825 NAS. It was the first time a Wasp had landed at Portland in over thirty years...

ETA:

A picture of HMS Hecla...

...as converted to a hospital ship during the Falklands War.

And a picture of two Wasp helicopters aboard sister ship HMS Hydra...

...during the conflict.

I know how effective the wildcat is, but it really is not the prettiest aircraft around.

A P51 on a humid day - in B&W because I did a crap scan of the original colour photo about 15 years ago and the original is 12,000 miles away atm. I hadn't seen wing tip vortices and a shockwave like that before.

Not real yet but Lockheed Martin and Boeing have taken the wraps off the Defiant X advanced military helicopter being developed for the US Army's Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) competition.

The general layout harks back to the Cheyenne in some respects.

I’m a bit lost with these new us army helicopters in development tbh. I thought that defiant thing had already flown? Wasn’t the defiant a Sikorsky Boeing aircraft SB 1?

More info https://newatlas.com/military/lockheed-martin-boei...

"Designed to replace the Black Hawk helicopter, the Defiant X looks very similar to its SB>1 Defiant predecessor, with the same basic layout, though the nose is sharper, the airframe more aerodynamic, and the engine nacelle has been refined to reduce its thermal signature."
