If the maths works for one design, why not for another? Seems a good idea.
I think it is as much manufacturer habit/branding as maths, especially for subsonic aircraft. Look at De Havilland fins for another manufacturer's consistent fin leading edge shape.Edited by xeny on Saturday 24th December 14:08

De Havilland consistently under-finned their designs. The last being the 'Jet Dragon' which Hawker Siddeley redesigned as the HS.125. In doing so they added extra fin area above the tailplanes.Hawker added extra area under the fuselage on the Hurricane - the prototype with a retractable tailwheel and no ventral strake looks rather less hunchbacked than the final production variant.
I'm purely thinking about the outline of the fin leading edge though as a manufacturer/designer signature.
