Does anyone know of anyone who may be able to look over some very simple boat electrics on a small boat currently kept in Teddington?

I'm sure it would be very simple for the someone who knows what they're looking at (it's just got solar panels, lights, vhf, watermaker and gps - that's about it), but I think it would be sensible to make sure it's properly working before I set off on a potentially 100-day trip!

In December (which is getting very close very quickly!), I'm going to be setting off by myself from La Gomera in a 23-foot rowing boat named Pacific Pete, hopefully arriving in Antigua some time later. Everything's in the final stages of preparation now but, not being an expert on boats, I'm trying to get some people who do know what they're talking about to check the boat over for me!

If you fancy sponsoring me, my website is www.atlanticrow2007.com (well, I had to put that in, didn't I? Also, I've got a fundraising golf day at Castle Combe on 25th October, if anyone wants to come along?).

On a slightly related matter, I do have one major problem with the attempt. Given that the boat is called Pacific Pete, should I refer to it as a 'he' or 'she'? It's causing me no end of trouble!

Try this lot, James Hortop is one of their design managers and technical adivsor to Practical Boat Owner, seeing as you will be dependant on your electronic I think that paying to get someone to do a check and going on a basic course may be worth it.

Seeing as your watermaker will deffinately be on the top of your priorities. It should be noted that most watermakers failures are due to poor installation so may be worth doing a trial run of it before you depend on it!

Good luck and take plenty of sudo cream for the chafe! At least you will have a nice tan at the end of it, are you being shaddowed by some sailboats or completely alone! Are you taking an EPIRB?

Good luck.

Thanks. Will follow up the Merlin Equipment link, but the website doesn't appear to be working right at the moment.

I am going completely by myself, but I am taking an EPIRB!
