Ww were going to Bournemouth today, but due to SWMBO running late meaning we would hit massive traffic from where we are at Port Solent. So a change of plan and better weather in the east took us to Bognor for the day. We had heard the Vulcan was going from Shoreham to Bournemouth so we hoped to see her on route one last time.
So there we were on Bognor beach today at lunchtime eating some fish and chips with a monster gherkin. A large incident (fire) response vehicle left in a hurry, and we wondered what that was about. At the same time, the Vulcan and a Spit were doing some lazy circuits over the channel and coastline. Looked great, the Spit looking so tiny alongside the Vulcan as they flew east to west on the last pass on the way to Bournemouth.
We thought that we had seen them filling time to go to Bournemouth but in the light of what happened at Shoreham, maybe they were biding time to go to Bournemouth after displays were disrupted by the tragic event this afternoon.
It was good to see the old bird do a few laps, but very sorry to hear the probable reason when I got back into the car. Feeling kinda guilty about enjoying the impromptu sighting of the Vulcan and Spit now...

On the live twitter feed from the Vulcan and Spitfire were doing a photo shoot around Bognor and biding time waiting to see what the outcome at Shoreham was, they eventually did a flypast of the airshow before heading for Bournemouth. Oh and the video that's cut off on the newscasts is pretty horrific in full, It's out there on YouTube.
Edited, photo shoot was after Shoreham not before.

Saw the Twitter feed so threw the wife, son and dad in th car with the gps set to Robin Hood Airport. Just parked in the short stay car park, open the doors to hear the engines winding up and saw her climb away.
A quick drive around the industrial area saw a car park and picnic tables (by the BAE building. So we parked up and had the sandwiches I had made earlier. A Vulcan follower recommended that we go to Old Balwtry Road as there is an area which gives a better view for the landing. He was it wrong.
Just before the Vulcan landed thunder was heard so after the old girl landed we got back in the car and shot back to where we had parked earlier to get close up pictures of the Vulcan (she was parked rear to the fence). A few pictures later and it was a quick dash back to the car that as the heavens were opening.
It as a great day out and a pleasure to actually see XH588 fly. Just need the son to down load and sort the pictures he took out.

My dad has seen on one website that the Vulcan isn't flying at Bournemouth following the tragic Shoreham accident, can anyone confirm this?

We were on the beach slightly west of Bognor and as I knew XH558 was due in the area I was looking around for it when I spotted a large plume of smoke in the distance. Utterly tragic incident as it turns out. I had expected the Vulcan to avoid the area completely but spotted it off the coast and watched it for a while in the distance holding and then interacting with the spitfire. We were then extremely lucky because it left the area and passed directly over our heads as it headed west and then completed a couple of roll overs. So glad to have seen her this year.

The B17 (Sally B?) just flew home over us; the Vulcan was a couple of hours earlier. Heading north, towards Basingrad, avoiding Eastleigh/So'ton Airport. I didn't realise the Vulcan was so green. I guess I last saw one at one of the early Goodwood FoS.The Vulcan did indeed fly today, a nice display and I got this video of it howling. Not the best acoustics but the final howl for Bournemouth!

After the Shorham incident the CAA have put in place a temporary restriction on vintage jet aircraft
http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=14&...
Flying displays over land by vintage jet aircraft will be significantly restricted until further notice. They will be limited to flypasts, which means ‘high energy’ aerobatics will not be permitted.
I think this will probably mean that if you haven't seen XH558 display this year then you won't as I'm guessing this will mean she can only do flypasts

Would the display at Bournmouth be over water..... If so, nothing has changed.http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=14&...
