From the brief glances of the helicopter footage it looked like it came in about 200yards at least short. Sounds more like a crash rather than a botched landing!

Good news: The incident happened as Prime Minister Gordon Brown was due to leave Heathrow for China and India. His flight was delayed because of the incident.

Bad news: His jet was not directly involved.

According to the BBC

"Six engines were at the scene of the incident."

Do you think they mean Injuns?
I though the 777 was only a twin engine plane?

Crikey, that's terrible. I can only hope my ex-wife was on board.

pprune.org is screwed at the moment. I guess the journalists have to get their information from somewhere.

So something has happened at Heathrow then. How much excitment can the P&P take? Threads popping up all over the place.

Thats the problem then. Inexperienced pilot loses control of overpowered plane.

It was only a matter of seconds before that had to happen.

Just listening on my airband radio - there was a scuffle in the cockpit.

They shouldn't be playing musical instruments and flying. Thats ridiculous.

More quality reportage from the BBC

"...Eyewitness John Rowland said: "The plane's wheels collapsed, doors were flown open.

"On its approach it took the runway too low, just missing the roof of my cab.

"It crashed into the runway, debris was flying everywhere, there was an enormous bang and it skidded sideways." ..."

What? Not onto a playground of screaming children, having clipped a hospital on the way down? Pillocks.. rolleyes

I hate the news when stuff like this happens. Anything that can be summed up in a sentence (like most accidents/disasters), and 24HR news channels will spend hours repeating the same sentence, with the dumbest commentary possible.

I'm so glad I dont work at LHR, though. Thats a whole lot of delayed passengers.
