Who's responsible for the connection between fuel tanks in the wing and the engine? RR or Boeing? Strange that there hasn't been any mention of any Trents on Airbus with the same sorts of difficulties?

So it seems the captain leaked the recording of air traffic control, but then got told to take it down, seems wikileaks got a copy before it was taken

It was linked on the Captains site, but it's not clear that he was the source of the leak. Percy Prune seems to suggest it came from someone at NATS who used it as a training tool.

Why have they asked him to take it down - can't believe there was anything incriminating?

Two things; the Wireless Telegraphy Act may apply (not too hot on this area of the law) and the recording, in its edited form is the copyright of NATS.

It does seem to be a mash-up of audio from a number of sources - ATC VHF, landlines, CVR, and Fire/Rescue unit comms - which implies the compilation is from an organisation with access to all of those recordings. The visualisation appears to confirm that.

Very interesting...

Hmmm I wonder whether that was intentionally released into the public domain or not?
I'll see if I can find out who was using it.

NATS produced a DVD compilation (they said to distribute to people to aid in the investigation), he was given a copy and put it on his website (which he was using to promote his services). He was told to take it down after a few days, he did so, and this copy surfaced.

It might have come from elsewhere, but he says the edit is identical and doesn't seem to dispute that it came from his site.

From the perspective of what caused the double engine failure, it doesn't have any relevance though.

Without the piquancy of the Mayday call, and what I assume is a CVR excerpt of the evacuation order, what you're left with is an audio compilation of the reaction from the various ground-based agencies to the event - all of which is presumably covered under copyright somewhere, but hardly worth a witch-hunt.

Very interesting. I was particularly impressed with the controller saying "problem is crash". I shall remember that next time I have a shunt!

Think he just forgot to switch to PA in the heat of the moment, and transmitted his evac order over the air. smile

I can't get audio at work and won't be home for a few days; can anyone summarise?

All: Normal Air Traffic Communication

Plane: Mayday Mayday Speedbird

Ground: Emergency. Plane crashed at end of runway.

Plane: Evacuate

Ground: Best clear all flights to the other runway and divert new ones.

Ah. So this footage doesn't show up anything new or interesting about the incident?

Not really. Unless there was some procedure slip up (I wouldn't know if there was). It's nothing to get too excited about.

Thanks. I'm sure it'll make interesting listening though.
