Miracle of the Hudson Plane Crash
Thursday 19 February
10:00pm - 11:10pm
Channel 4
The story of the US Airways flight forced to make an emergency landing in the Hudson River after a flock of geese flew into its engines minutes from takeoff. This film hears from passengers, eyewitnesses and rescuers, and uses simulation technology to show how pilot Chelsey Sullenberger managed to land the plane successfully.
I posted this as I thought there would be a lot of interest

Bloody hell, the narration is pretty soporific. I'll be interested to see how they stretch this into an hour, bearing in mind they have no more information than the news did 24 hours after the crash.
Edit: To see how they coordinated the rescue op is pretty good actually.
Worth watching for the R/T exchanges alone though.

Interesting number of passengers who left the aircraft without life jackets.
It's easy to say, after the event, that they should have read the safety card, and listened to the cabin crew briefing.
So easy, in fact, I'll say it again: they should have read the safety card, and listened to the cabin crew briefing.
You never know, it might *just* save your life.

Not impressed really.
Madame said why didnt the ditch button get pressed, why no mayday call, are checklists that long that they cant complete them?
So I played her a recording of the ATC in real time. She had the impression that they had about 10 times longer than in reality because of the editing and waffle.
So it wasnt a miracle, it wasnt a crash and it all happened just a lot faster than shown.

Burn the pilot. Burn him on a pyre. Burn him so our crops will not fail again.
Oh, sorry, got a bit carried away there.
I think the survivors would tell you it was a decent bit of flying and that they're all a bit grateful.

It was indeed a text-book piece of captaincy and flying that will probably become a CRM teaching reference. Doesnt make it a 'miracle' IMHO.

The BBC had a former BA pilot on to discuss the transcripts. He was the captain during the Jakarta Incident, when a 747 from London to New Zealand lost all four engines after flying into a cloud of volcanic ash. He informed the passengers:
Reading about the Jakarta Incident, and seeing that the learnings they took from it are now part of regular training, does anybody think there is enough to take from the Hudson River incident to change procedure during similar incidents? Or is it the case that it's such a one off there isn't any real point in the modification of procedures? My question stems from the fact the captain didn't have enough time to go through a check list which was designed to be followed from 30,000ft

Was a bit cheesy, trouble with these programs they strech em out, talk a bit of crap strech some facts etc
Still good flying, to get the plane down like he did and make sure that the angle is right not to catch anything is skill.
Was intersting program, just the narraitor talked a load of poo
