Sky Channel 520, Saturday 16th Jan, 9.00pm - Miracle on The Hudson. "Just two minutes into the flight, disaster strikes US Airways flight 1549 and it is forced to land in the Hudson River. Watch testimonies of passengers, witnesses and rescuers"
Now thats the same title as the Channel4 documentary - but thanks for that, will set the V+ box for it.According to the documentary the copilot was going through the restart procedure for the engines right up until the plane actually hit the water, the only button they had not pressed was the ditching button which apparently seals the belly when the plane lands in water. The reason they gave that this was not pressed was because it was so far into the sequence in the manual they didnt have time to get through the procedure manual due to lack of altitude. Once the plane was in the water all the electrics died and the button was no longer operative.

I heard that the pilot was so excited about the prospect of landing in the hudson that he failed to hit the engine restart buttons.
I think not.Watch this great CGI reconstruction . The pilot/co-pilot were totally professional through out.

Why do people want to denigrate what was truly an extraordinary feat of airmanship?
How many other jet airliners have been sucssfully ditched without a single loss of life?
Why the suggestion that I want to denigrate? A senior Professor friend of mine (not prone to BS) spoke to a US accident investigator who was involved in the case. How many other jet airliners have been sucssfully ditched without a single loss of life?
