The pilot deserves a medal, that must've taken some awesome flying to stop it breaking up on landing!

What's really lucky for them is that the plane landed in a very busy part of the river, it basically landed in the middle of the NY Waterway ferry line.

It's all over the news here, local channels are nonstop and they have eyewitnesses being interviewed, usual nonsense.

You can see on some of the videos just how fast the river is moving.

So, reckon someone filmed the water landing? Countdown to it arriving on Youtube.. just saw on pprune it got to about 4000' eek

Was someone really clever here.

If they only opened the front doors. And the rear of the plane is heavy. It'll float because the front doors are over the water line.

Plan (In the operations manual)? Chance? Quick thinking?
Yeah, ok, your plane has just crashed landed on water. You thank your lucky stars that you are still alive. Do you:

a) think hmm, we're floating and we have enough time file to the front because the back of the plane will sink first
b) GET THAT DOOR OPEN RIGHT THIS MOMENT CAUSE I WANT OFF THIS GOD DAMN PLANE - DONT CARE ABOUT NO WATER CAUSE THERES A FERRY JUST OVER THERE HEADING OUR WAY

Now, a or b.
