Mid air collision

Flipping eck, that's what it was. We were down Rest Bay but nearly went to Kenfig (flip of the coin for a walk). Saw the Sea King hovering around and wondered why it was practicing in land then a police chopper lift off. Obviously we got there (Porthcawl) after it happened.

FFS. Part from the fact the airframes are partly composite, which is a lovely toxic combination when introduced to fire, it's an aircrash scene. If people going fking with the evidence, I hope the investigators break their legs.Very sad news, condolences for all concerned. BBC site says they were from RAF Cranwell....? A long way from home if so, so assume this is an error.
I too remember the the AEFs with great fondness. I won an RAF flying scholarship when I was 15, did it at 16 and then when I next took a load of cadets to the AEF, the instructor saw my "wings" and said, OK, its all yours!! Flew the whole sortie, great fun and near perfect, until the landing, my first in a tail dragger, big crosswind, and having touched down well, relaxed, then the nose went up not down like my aerobat! I could not see anything especailly from the back and we ran off the side of the runway! Grass and glass everywhere! Never made that mistake again.
I hope the pen pushers and elf and safety geezers dont outlaw these flights now. They have truly been resopnsible for hundreds if not thousands of people pursuing flying careers both military and civilian, and I am sure remain in the memoroes of any kid who ever did one.

Just dug my UWAS pot beer mug out and am having a drink to the boys tonight. Some of my happiest days ever when on UWAS with some legandary flying and party times. Alot of our year still in the service.
My thoughts are with ALL of our services tonight and especially the individuals involved.

Two cadets on a jolly with two instructors it seems. All confirmed fatalities. Given the location they were either heading in or out of Saints, and should have been under the instructors control if they were flying in formation. Any formation aero's would have much further along the coast and certainly at a higher altitude. I don't think we'll know what happened, but one of the first things they drill into you is observation, observation, observation. Very unusual.

Extremely sad news, and with over 45,000 cadets in the ATC and another 15,000 staff, this is (and will) hit everyone hard.
You wouldn't think that 13 year olds could be saddened by this news, of people they had never met, but thy do and they did tonight when i had the job of informing my group of 50.
My thoughts go to the families, the staff who looked after them, their friends and those who had to attend and deal.

Christ, that's awful. I used to love wheeling about in Tutors as a cadet, but thoughts of something like this never even occurred to me. Condolences to those involved
