Saw this..

I understand that if you have a tidal swing mooring you could live on this without paying council tax as the council can only tax up to low water level!

Its such a shame that so many of those old MTB's were just hacked up as houseboats.

Given that it is a wooden hull, and it would sound like it has been just sitting in its current berth for 18 years (grp skin on the wood or not) the bottom is probably about as strong as a sheet of wet bog roll ...

It also looks like it is on a tidal mud berth (hence why it has not sunk)

It will not be a viable hull for keeping on a swinging mooring, the first thing it needs is to be lifted out of the water (again assuming that the hull can take the strain of being lifted.)

Shame as it would make a great (if expensive) project to get her back to something along the lines of what she was ... (perhaps without the torpedoes)

Looks like she might have been an old Vospers boat, something similar to this ...

Seeing how much work is required to keep MTB102 afloat (in good nick already) i'd say it's almost a complete basket case...

It's only hope is someone very wealthy who used to work on it fancying a shot at restoration...not likely....sadly.

Isn't there only one original (well without the armament) working WWII MTB around?

The one that was used on Major Corrigan's "Great Raids of WWII" series for his version of the St Nazaire Raid.

As mentioned MTB102 is still afloat and does the rounds.

It has an interesting history, and I cycle past it every morning.

there are several others that are no longer mtb's as such but are still operating boats with the performance and power origionally intended, just modernised ....

Minxy comes to mind, although i think she was a Fairmile gunboat rather than torpedo boat.

That's not the one I recall. Although it's obviously another. The one they used had no external wartime fittings and looked rather like a Wally 118 in profile, hull painted pale blue with white enclosed cockpit area tall at the front angling down towards the rear.

Interesting.....because moored up to MTB102 there's another military esque vessel, navy hull, white cockpit not too sure on the profile....number 1392 I think?

I tell you what, i'll grab a photo on the way home if I remember, this yard is now a trust, and is aiming to get ex military craft for restorations.

However, here's a couple of links....maybe quite old...of the projects at that particular yard.

Close, I've found the one I recall, it's a a Motor Gun Boat though not a MTB, it's MGB-81.

That looks lovely

I actually saw a chap coming out of the yard on my way home and stopped him, the one I was thinking of was MGB Spitfire, and is on their projects page, looks like the MTB102 trust now owns the yard too, so should see some nice classic naval stuff over the coming years...
