frown A similiar, but worse, thing happened to my grandads old ship. He worked for the northern lighthouse board onboard the "Polestar". After it was retired it was sold to a compay who did short cruises in the carribean who then i tur sold it to someone else. The someone else set it for a refit after it was damaged inn a storm. As it was being dragged into dry dock the idiots didnt support it properly and it snapped in half. The last thing I could find out about it was that it was left to rot beached on a causeway on the port of spain in trinidad.

being demolished

I hate that photo, not for the photo itself but because it shows just how small our through deck cruisers are in the scale of all things carrier.

True, but doesn't the Charles De Gaule look a bit odd with the island so far forward?

It's not the size that counts - it's what you do with it wink

Aren't we the only country to have fought a carrier based war and won since WW2?

(OK, the Hermes was a bit bigger - but not that much bigger - I'm sure given 2 Invincible class ships we'd have seen a similar result anyway)

I think the US Navy might have something to say about that..with many years spent at Yankee Station off North Vietnam. (Technically, they won every battle, but lost the war)

There were also US and RN carriers doing stirling work off Korea. (That was a technical win)

No it's in the right place, it's just going in reverse. They have good experience of that wink

hehe

French radar.

Targets the nearest 50 "friendlies", and moves in for cover.

Don't think that's one of the 'Cruisers' That's HMS Ocean - our Helicopter Assault ship isn't it?

I think you may be right - looks like 3 choppers lined up on deck. Hard to see if it has a 'ski jump', though

Same thing, really - Ocean is just an Invincible class without the ramp.

Ocean has a crane just aft of the superstructure whereas none of the Invincibles do (unless it's fitted when they're in the LPH role?), which you can just make out in the photo.

The Invincibles have a crane fitted to the starboard side, forward of the bridge structure. But that is Ocean.

Not really. Invincible was built as a 'proper' warship. Ocean was built on the cheap and is a merchant ship with added bits.

True, just looked at that image full screen and the distinct lack of ski jump is the obvious clue.

Same size though give or take a metre and tonne.

Somewhere I have a picture of a Ton class sweeper on it's side having been hit by a big wave during a typhoon in the Sea of Japan. The picture was taken from another of the Ton class and you can see down the funnel. The sweeper came back up and all was well....expect my Dad got knocked out smile
