Beautiful and classy ship, far nicer than the horrible cruise ships.

Embrace summer in the UK, sailing along the south coast on the world’s largest square-rigged sailing vessel. En route, discover Portsmouth, Plymouth, Falmouth, Dartmouth and Poole.

U.S. Navy’s New Supercarrier Completes Explosive Shock Trials

The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) completed its third and final round of blasts as part of its Full Ship Shock Trials off the coast of Jacksonville, Florida, on Sunday.

Shock trials are meant to validate a ship’s hardness and ability to sustain operations in a simulated combat environment using live ordnance. Over the course of four months, the first-in-class aircraft carrier withstood the impact of three 40,000-pound underwater blasts, released at distances progressively closer to the ship.

I noticed an interesting looking ship moored up outside the harbour here last night, just looked it up on marinetraffic and it turns out it's moored a lot further out than I thought...

According to wikipedia the Pioneer Spirit is the worlds largest ship by gross tonnage. Displacement for transit is 3 times that of a Nimitz carrier, and a maximum displacement of 1 million tonnes

I saw this one on FB earlier. I know nothing about it but I guess it’s either being launched or has run aground based on the gathered crowd.

Think we've had this one before too. She's on the slipway ahead of launch there. From memory Newcastle/Tyneside perhaps?

It's been postponed due to the Corona crisis/low oil pices.

The new vessel will be 1,5 larger even than the 2,8 bln Euro costing Pioneering Spirit.

I suspected it might have been a repost, but there’s been that many cool pics on here it’s impossible to remember them all.

CBA to find the pics of the Heerema duo again but just been reading in a report:

"Heerema admits in an internal presentation that it is “facing major crisis” that could result in a loss of
hundreds of million of dollars for contractors by the end of the year. The issues are a result of the works at
Orsted’s Greater Changhua 1 offshore wind farm where the company is now exposed to a potential USD
100m liquidated damages from the client.
Saipem lost EUR 659m on EUR 1.6bn revenues in Q2, compared to EUR 616m loss on EUR 1.5bn revenues
last year. The company is now aiming to reduce operating leverage via streamlining of operations and
processes."

Gulp- that has to hurt both....

Also been WhatsApp’s a cringe video of a top brass explaining ‘what horrid contractors Wind people are’
