Just seen it on the beeb. Have they said the condition of the pilot and navigator?
Was probably on a low flying exercise, just hope it didnt crash into any walkers/spotter/photographers.

Flew into a hill apparently. Not always a good sign.

"Emergency services are racing to the scene of a reported crash of a RAF Tornado fighter near the Rest of Be Thankful pass in Argyll, Scotland, about two miles to the west of Loch Lomond.

Ambulance, police and rescue helicopter crews were scrambled shortly after 11.45am following a report of the aircraft slamming into a hillside near the A83 Arrochar to Inveraray Road, north west of Loch Lomond.

The plane is believed to be from RAF Leuchars but as yet there are no details on the condition of the pilot and navigator."

Hope they got out

Unusual for an F3 to be that close to the deck isn't it?

Just watched the clip on BBC, hope they weren't having a jolly that went wrong frown

Apparently a flight of two, so it will be interesting to see what the other flight crew reports

I doubt it. Fighters often fly in pairs. One would have been lead with the other acting as "wing man".

I don't think these guys take up £20 million aircraft on "jollies".

The F3 is derived from the GR Tornadoes, so is probably more at home flying low-level than as the compromised medium/high-level interceptor it currently serves as. F3 aircrew still have to retain proficiency in low-level flying and nav, even if it's not their normal role, so not unusual for them to fly at this height.

You'd be surprised Eric, we lost a pair of our best guys from 14 Sqn who were 'pushing it a bit' I've been up on a sortie myself and there's no boss to look over your shoulder up there wink

I'm not saying they don't enjoy what they do. And it is well known that fighter pilots will always push to the extreme - it's the nature of the beast. However, I wouldn't like to sully these poor chaps with assertions that they might have been behaving in any way irresponsibly.
