Never really taken an interest in my Father's boat building business but just had a look at his website (after a four year hiatus) and have to say I'm quite proud of his work.

He started this company about 15-20 years ago as a means for him to go sailing and it's built up from there.

Not trying advertising or anything (because I've never spoken to his UK agent and have no idea if they sell boats here or not anymore) but curious to see what people think and any thoughts on improving the product, website etc...

My Father and I have drifted apart over the years with only a call here and there which is a shame but any positive (and tame negative) feedback I get I'll pass on. It'll give me a reason to call him methinks.....

Robin.

Good points!

It is very dated isn't it!

Quite like the simple website design, get rid of that IE / Netscape crap though.

Get in touch with your dad more importantly.

They're blunt at one end and sharp at the other and sit in water...

It's a bit dated. I wouldn't wade in saying that though.

In terms of the boats. You had me at "hand built" and "wooden". Always has a certain quality to it a wooden dingy over a fiberglass one. (Probably just slower so I could think at the same speed as it)

Or better yet redesign the website so it actually works in browsers other than IE. It doesn't work in Firefox.

Lovely looking boats though. Now give him a ring and tell him you're proud of him rather than telling us.

The only thing I can find to click on is 'Netscape based browsers click here' - which is not something I'd click on - except that nothing else is clickable!

(I use Firefox)

Works for me. I love the look of traditional wooden gaff rigged boats. If you have fallen out with your dad ask him to leave it to me.

I haven't seen or used Netscape for at least 10 years. Last computer I saw it on was ine of the original Imacs.

I presume his boat-building skills are better than his website-building ones? biggrin

The site contains absolutely bugger all information, just a picture which won't scroll with the rest of the page, two buttons for an old browser and another picture place holder, with no picture in.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it really is completely useless.

Works for me in Chrome.

As others have said, lose the Internet Explorer/Netscape stuff (very 1990's, and not necessary!).

Site looks dated, but that prob doesn't matter to your dad's target audience. And there is something special about wooden boats.

Oh, and it should be Designers and Builders in "Design and Builders of Fine Wooden Sailing Craft".

Okay, finally after a lot of persuading my Dad has updated his website.

Take a look and let me know any thoughts:

I like the photo at the top, and the rest of it's quite nice too. If I was into sailing I'd probably look at every page!
