A diesel sprinter does about 4mpg per unit, so a 2 car set will be doing 2mpg, a 4 car set 1mpg etc...

I was on a late train from LDN Victoria, stopping at Three Bridges. The train left Vic late, and it seemed the driver was trying to make some time up. Right up until we shot through Three Bridges at a fair rate of Knots.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I seem to have overshot the station" was said very sheepishly! laugh
