Gear up....errr, oh
Discussion
Apparently this has happened a few times on Tornados. (Wait for the Tornado boys to confirm or lambast me!) Pilot pre selects undercarriage "up", nothing happens until weight is taken off undercarriage (weight on wheels switch deactivated)then undercarriage retracts even if you have subsequently aborted take off.
I have to say this is astonishing .. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-805682182...

IIRC it also happened in early testing of the YF-16 - in a test the undercarriage was commanded to retract, but as the aircraft was stationary with the engine not running, nothing should have happened - apparently there was a rather expensive crunch.Another F-16 software glitch was discovered during an early sales deployment to Australia - 4 F-16s were happily flying along, all on autopilot, when they all simultaneously rolled inverted. Seems the autopilot interpreted crossing the equator as the aircraft being upside down, so tried to correct the situation.

Ref for this? Can't belive it!Happens on landing as well. £7.9 million to repair. Ouch!

What I enjoyed most of all in that video, is that around the 25 second mark, it seems the pilot elected to lower the gear. Oddly, to no real avail.
It looked to me like it did in fact take off a foot or so, but then sort of plopped back down again. Maybe it was an illusion?RizzoTheRat said:
This one however is real, I guess the F-15 is quite an effective lifting body.
