I've got the same engine on my Rib, very pleased with it......

I've never been on the Fal, looks nice.
Yeah, it's a good engine. Had a few problems with it recently misfiring. Turns out the bottom injector was blocked with water and bits of fuel filter! Had them cleaned by an injector specialist who was great. Got the really bad injector from 148cc/min to 292cc/min which is the factory flow rate. The others were pretty good, around 280 and now back up to 292. Goes like a rocket now! I would recommend having it done if it's done a few hours and has ever seen water or rubbish in the fuel.

River Fal is lovely. Saw so many Buzzards and Herons. Towed the kayak up there behind the RIB and it was great to anchor up and explore the little bays in the kayak.

Just been Googling where you are......

Have you been up to the Heron Inn at Malpas? Looks good up there. Not sure if it dries out, I think it does right by the pub, but there looks to be a visitors pontoon which stays wet!

The Heron Inn was as far up the river as we went. It really was beautiful up there. We saw the pub but didn't go in. We really liked the Smugglers Cottage at Tolverne so we kept going back there.

We were up at Malpas at low tide and it wasn't dried out like it is in Google Maps satellite view. We were up at neaps so there wasn't much of a low tide. I expect it would dry out at spring lows. Depth sounder was reading 1.2m deep in places at around that sandbank.

We anchored just to the left of those boats on swinging moorings, just south of the central sandbank on Google maps. From there we took the kayak to the beach and had a walk around there. It's a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) and really nice for a walk in amongst all those trees on the inside of the bend (to the south of the river). You can hear the Buzzards flying overhead and the herons flying into the trees. They make a right noise when they're around other herons!

136 litre fuel tank - not likely! It's normally based in the Solent at Lymington. We just went down to Cornwall for a holiday.

I seem to get through petrol at an alarming rate and there's not a huge amount of choice where to buy it from.....

Yeah, it's not an economical engine, although it's better now I've put new filters on and had the injectors serviced.

It is bench tested at 55.8 litres per hour flat out. I find mine does around 22-24 litres an hour cruising at around 23 knots or so.

Who do you have yours serviced by?

Mine's serviced by Ron Hale, but there doesn't seem to be much choice if you value your warranty....

Just bought this with a couple of mates. It's a 2003 Mastercraft Skier 19, with a 5.7ltr Chevy 'Predator' giving 310hp of V8 waftiness....nice!

I shall be getting in as many ski/board sessions as I can.....

At work! I work for BHG Marine in the sales department (you may have seen on or two stickers on my RIB!). I let the company use it as a demo boat and it gets used as a static display at boat shows and in return all the basic service work is carried out for me. It's just returned from the New Forest Show earlier today. Just in time for the weekend.

Our service centre are very good. We have a dedicated service centre at Bucklers Hard in Beaulieu who know Yamaha's inside out. A couple of the guys down there are ex Yamaha factory engineers and know EVERYTHING about them. They also have all the diagnostics etc. down there. Plus they're open 6 days a week and our site is open 7 days a week so you can actually come and talk to us and our engineers over the weekend.

End of shameless plug...

Nice, they're cracking boats. I cut my teeth on a Prostar 190 and I've still to find anything I like to ski behind as much. One tip though, if it hasn't been already, get it converted to run on gas!

If you don't mind me asking, what did you guys pay for it and how many hours has it got on it? I'm after something similar myself for next year.

This should do you Dan. We use it at the Kent boat & ski club at Cuxton in Kent.

As soon we get a day where we aren't using it, we'll convert it to gas. The boat has just over 300hrs on it, and we paid about £14,000 for it. We had to look long and hard, as there really wasn't much suitable on offer. We got ours from Leith, which was only about 483 miles from here.....

That's a mahoosive engine for a boat that size - what sort of speed will it do?

The boat is 19' long, and weighs about 2200lbs and is designed specifically for water skiing. Pulling power is paramount, I'm 235lbs kitted up and this pulls me out of a deep water start with no effort at all.
Flat out yesterday saw 50mph on the clocks on very flat water.

Very, very pleased with purchase....

Dom - is this purely a lake/calm sea boat or can it be used on open water like the Solent ?

I assume you are talking LPG ? How much would it cost to convert and how much would you pay for LPG compared to marine petrol ? Do they remove the petrol tank completely for LPG and what sort of range (hours) would you have in the tank ?

John, these are designed purely to pull skiers/boarders on flat water. It's not the type of boat I would take out onto open water, where the possibility of changeable water/weather could arise.
Yes, by gas I refer to LPG. It's presently half the price of pump fuel, and we have an approved LPG storage tank on site, so can fill up very conveniently. The tanks are approximately 100ltrs, so would normally be enough for a days skiing (5 hrs or so). We're looking at between £600-£1000 to convert the fuel to LPG. It won't be a dual fuel system, so the petrol tank will be removed.

Off out in 4 hrs, hoping for brighter weather.... cool

The view of me from the boat. Lousy weather, but good skiing..
