That's big! Access to some ports must be limited by bridges. Those are tall masts. Still prefer a schooner rigged bermudan though.

The masts were designed so that the top 3 meters fold back so we can get in to San Fran. To be honest, for 'traditional' superyacht itineraries the draft at 7.4 meters is a bigger issue. Good job we are not doing traditional..

Wow that is a deep draft. I was expecting some sort of lifting keel.

We cant have a retractable keel as the 3 masts go almost 10 meters in to the hull on the centreline so nowhere for a retractable keel to go.

How does heating the diesel improve efficiency? Genuine question

My mate works on a boat for steve Wynn. Cant think of the name but the boat was 200 odd mill. I asked him how much to fill it up. About 250k! Crazy money.

I'm sure I saw this yacht sailing out of Stockholm a few weeks ago. Can anyone confirm?

Seems likely considering it’s in Riga now just across the way.

Thanks. Unfortunately I didn't have my phone or camera with me but I'm sure it was that yacht. It wasn't under sail at the time but was an impressive sight.

A few interesting facts about Andromeda. It is an Ice Class yacht with heating for fuel tanks to aid efficiency. Its propulsion system is a Hybrid Rolls Royce Diesel electric. It holds 470,000 L of fuel and consumes 600L/hr at 12 knots Giving it a range of 8500NM (9800 miles) so can go anywhere except the Poles
How do you actually complete the transaction for that amount of petrol? I'm assuming it's invoiced with payment on receipt?

We get invoiced after delivery, and then assuming no letter of protest (fuel quality does not meet specs* etc), payment is by bank transfer to the bunker agent at some point after that. Depending on your next port of call (outside EEA) or whether commercially registered or private, the price can be anywhere between 0.70 and 1.30 EUR at the moment in the Med.

* The specification is agreed upon in advance, but just in case you are not getting quite what you asked for samples are taken throughout the bunkering process, all are witnessed and sealed and one is sent away for analysis. The issued report, usually received a few days later will give the exact chemical properties of the fuel. The main ones to look out for (for distillate fuels) are sulphur content, flash point.

No. Didn't go anywhere near Stockholm. Down through the channel between Copenhagen and Malmo then straight to Gdansk. Relocated over the weekend to Riga, first at anchor then alongside.

The masts are unstayed? Much be some significant structures in the hull to hold them up!

Shame there isn’t space for a lifting keel between the masts. So many places are draft limited. We have issues with a 7ft draft!

Any ideas about which yacht I might have seen? It looked very similar to the Black Pearl. Sailing East out of Stockholm a few weeks ago (I can't remember the exact date). I'm sure the Cayman Island flag was being shown.

Maltese Falcon has a similar mast system (Dyna Rig) but she is operating off the coast of Italy at the moment. There are plenty of 3 masted yachts out there so from a distance could look familiar.

Thanks. Couldn't have been the Maltese Falcon then. It was the low profile, starboard deck and profile of the bow that stuck in my mind and of course the flag. I really must remember to take a camera with me.

Doesn’t matter how much fuel you have, you’re never going to the South Pole in a superyacht.
do superyachts actually go anywhere?

if I had one then i'd actually enjoy traveling long distances, as traveling is kind of the point in a boat imo
