Their was an interesting comment made by a well known Super-yacht Lawyer who said crew may have an argument for an MLC claim if an owner insisted on using/coming on board their yacht in the current climate.
Did they happen to mention which MLC clause they were referring to?TeeRev said:

Very early in my career at sea, I was working on a 12,000-tonne ferry. it did the route from Newhaven to Dieppe.
We were once caught in a storm so severe that the ship was ripped off the dock, and we had no choice but to head out to sea and sit there until the storm subsided.
I didn't put on my lifejacket, but I sure as hell had it ready and waiting. One of the ship's dancers was wearing her lifejacket and lying in the corridor, crying.
Was that the Senlac? We were once caught in a storm so severe that the ship was ripped off the dock, and we had no choice but to head out to sea and sit there until the storm subsided.

The Senlac was on the route in the eighties and I think was the last ship that was all British crewed.

Nice ship, one of the better ones on that route over the years as I recall. We live in Seaford so nearly always go Newhaven-Dieppe and sailed on her a few times in the nineties.

Yep, the only Brits on the Parisien were the entertainment team, and a single croupier so just six of us in total. Everyone else was French. I had a really weird gig, it was three sets per day, but they were at 11 AM, 4 PM, and 11 PM! It was my first full-time music job so at the time I was delighted just to be there. The Senlac was on the route in the eighties and I think was the last ship that was all British crewed.
Clearly NOT a $60mio ship but a cool looking thing:

No guard rails On J’s, and crew aren’t wearing life jackets either.
But they’ll have at least one or two chase boats (big ribs) at all times for racing and training. Plus J’s generally have other boats following them most of the time given how rare and beautiful they are.
I only wear a jacket and clip on when working foredeck at night, or in very heavy weather.
Serious question, as genuinely interested to know. Have you, (or anyone else on here who is crew) ever been in the situation where conditions got too the point where a jacket became a must? But they’ll have at least one or two chase boats (big ribs) at all times for racing and training. Plus J’s generally have other boats following them most of the time given how rare and beautiful they are.

I've only ever been on commercial ferries on a fair few different routes, and the Portsmouth too Bilbao and Santander could be interesting at times. I was normally fairly OK, but remember asking 1 of the barman who I got friendly with how I would know when I should be genuinely concerned?
He told me if ever I saw him wearing a jacket, then I should be concerned
1. Small frigate on a long patrol. It was the middle of the night and the the ship was bouncing about a lot. Warships don't have windows so you generally have no idea what it's really like outside. I needed to go onto the upper deck to check something, and the routine was that you had to ask the office of the watch on the bridge. On the bridge I could see just how bad things were. In the troughs we were literally surrounded by a wall of water taller than the ship. In the dark it looked terrifying! I was not given permission to go outside!
2. A few years later was on an aircraft carrier. Again at night the ship was bouncing around. I get a call out saying one of my systems at the front of the ship has gone off line. I go to the control room an try to get it back on line but it's dead, I can't even get power onto it. The upper desk is already out of bounds but I go to the bridge to see if I can spot anything from there. What I see is the front of the carrier going under when we hit some of the larger waves which pretty much answers the question.

Maybe Greenpeas can throw some more of their donations in it's direction, buying it as a replacement for the Ady Gil.https://robbreport.com/motors/marine/custom-hi-tec...

That's an awesome looking thing.https://robbreport.com/motors/marine/custom-hi-tec...
Would that be inherently more stable than a conventional design?

Never had to but there were times when I thought I might. Two incidents in particular.
1. Small frigate on a long patrol.
2. A few years later was on an aircraft carrier.
Which ones?1. Small frigate on a long patrol.
2. A few years later was on an aircraft carrier.

Not even a single helicopter parking space so totally impractical for my needs. I’m out.
