Whilst it’s not in the £60+ gang I stumbled across this the other day whilst staring at their tenders and yachts.

So I’ve purchased my euromillions ticket!

Here’s the yacht that caused me to take a look at their website: https://youtu.be/42FIyhCDDB4
Nice find. Sooo much smarter and more grown-up than the normal juvenile Dubai/Russia nightclub horrors.

What'll one of them cost me?

Oh, that Spirit 111 (Geist?) is utterly gorgeous in almost every single way...

Just incredible. I've never seen a yacht interior like it. Makes everything else look frumpy and unimaginative.

Wooden! - You will need all of the Euromillions win for maintenance.

Steel/aluminium pish...

I'd covet a J over pretty much any other object on earth. And I am no "sailor".

Where is your soul! Look at it!

I believe only Shamrock V is wooden hulled.

If you were, you would stay as far away from owning a wooden boat as possible! Sailing someone else's is wonderful though...

I did once own a wooden Mirror dinghy... That wasn't too bad to look after!

The Spirits are utterly gorgeous though. Surely with modern construction/protection from day one a modern wooden boat is a different ownership proposition compared to a 1970s or older boat?

Didn't manage to get a decent pic, but spotted a rather large 3 mast yacht some distance off the Lizard Peninsula on Saturday afternoon. Did a quick check and it turns out it was....The Black Pearl hehe

On her way to Amsterdam for her 2.5 year docking.
As in, she'll spend 2.5yrs in dock at Amsterdam?

Or you're meaning like she's going in for her 2.5yr service?
Yes, badly worded. For her 2.5 year hull survey
Speculator, I've read that Black Pearl can achieve 17.5knots under engine. How much power is that. Significant I would imagine
During sea trials we achieved 18.5 knots under power with the two MTU engines producing 2160 Kw of power. During our trip from Cyprus to Tarragona last year we reached 24.8 knots under sail. The rigs and hull are spec'ed for a max speed of 30 knots but we have the mast sensors set at 80% of tolerance. Black Pearl is effectively a large J-Class so built for speed. Our only issue is the 7.4 meter fixed keel so restricted by draft for a lot of marinas.

It’s hard to envisage the size of Black Pearl until you see it alongside a ‘normal’ fair sized sailing yacht -
Stunning.
It looks a lot better under sail. Otherwise a bit hmmm.
Oh... I don't know... I think she is beautiful but of course I am biased....

Yeah she looks good there. Maybe I'm just used to seeing yachts that have a more traditional cabin and bow. Any pics of the interior?

I've just sold my wooden boat and it's a wrench. Am waiting for my new kevlar and carbon wonder-boat to arrive frown

It was only 15ft7in, mind - but the new one's a huge 17-6, so I think I can mix it with the boats on here, shirley?

That's really sad to see, thank goodness they got them all off.

How the hell do they deal with an insurance claim on that kind of thing? Presumably the insurer just has to pay out the value and accept they'll never know the cause?

as IforB says, wooden boats are wonderful things.

No matter what modern techniques come out, wood is still wood, and it still needs sanding and painting / varnishing regularly. the bigger teh boat, the more paint brushes and sunny days you need.

My Dad had a beautiful Miller Fyfer for several years .... as much as he loved that boat, it was sold on and a GRP one came in its place (and that still required many weekends a year of sanding and varnishing of hand rails and so on by a youthful me in return for slave labour rates.)

How is Black Pearl anything like a J? Even ignoring the aesthetics (J's are the most beautiful and graceful things afloat... whilst imposing and a fabulously impressive piece of boat building, I doubt anyone would use either of those words to describe Black Pearl), where are the similarities? The hull shape, rigs and top sides are all completely different.
