Always a fan of Bystander the tender to Velshelda.

I wonder if you could have both for the price of the instigator of this side discussion 'Speculatore' ...
The 3 carbon fibre masts alone on Black Pearl were £25m
Really. Not much surprises me but I suppose it’s breaking new ground and being the best in the game. I can understand that. It’s a one of a kind.

A few mates of mine campaign TP52's and they recon just the one-off costs of a single regatta for one is $30 - 50k with sails, crew, flights, entry fees, (local) delivery costs etc.
Someone claimed to me that top level TP52 teams track the # of tacks each jib does and replace it after about 30.

Pretty sure that’s not correct... at least for the super series. TP52’s are allowed a maximum number of sails (Like engines in F1)... I think it’s around 20 over a race series (60 races in total).

That’s still well over £300k on sails.

Yes, that does make sense. I guess you can rejeuvenate a sail by recutting it without needing new tags though.

Yes, Made by MAGMA in Portchester. The owner has purchased the actual moulds in case he wants to build another one. MAGMA also made the CF masts for 'Sail Assisted Motor Yacht 'A'

Wasn't expecting that, if I'm honest - even in the scheme of superyacht costs.

What are their dimensions (asks the bloke used to waggling 9ft of it around)?

I actually thought that sounded a bit cheap to be honest.

Its really a factor of low/no production rates and engineering hours.

A 10MW wind turbine comes in at about £10 million, the blades which are ~100m long each come in at around £1 million for all three.

Won't that be bloody uncomfortable, smashing up and down right at the front?

Stunningly effective-looking thing though.

doubt the owner will be onboard when its doing the "smashing up and down" bit.

i do love these expedition style vessels being adapted from O&G offshore vessels, they look much more purposeful.

Isn’t this just one of the posh chase boats? I hear the new trend is to have a chase boat, with the big helicopter on, cars, sub, decompression chamber etc etc all kept on that.

Much prefer these expedition style yachts - Black Pearl, any J class are beautiful things but for me - I’d love to turn up in Ragnar just to upset the balance a bit.

I’d definitely want to be on board for the bouncy bits!

Even in the world of superyachts, I'd be amazed if that was "just" a chase boat.

Aren't we comparing steel to carbon fibre/exotic construction? Although I agree re the bespoke one off nature

I think they're called support vessels. Super Yacht Captain did a tour of one on one of his YouTube videos, and it was quite a size.
