Isn’t this just one of the posh chase boats? I hear the new trend is to have a chase boat, with the big helicopter on, cars, sub, decompression chamber etc etc all kept on that.
Even in the world of superyachts, I'd be amazed if that was "just" a chase boat.
I think they're called support vessels. Super Yacht Captain did a tour of one on one of his YouTube videos, and it was quite a size.
M/y Ragnar is a full charter yacht. I think that it goes for around 1/2 million a week for charter.
Explorers style yacht are very fashionable at the moment. Lovely galley though.

As mentioned above, some support vessels are even bigger than that.

It is not a chase or support yacht it is a standalone yacht.

These videos whilst entertaining are exactly that, entertainment

The 3 carbon fibre masts alone on Black Pearl were £25m
*thud*

Wasn't expecting that, if I'm honest - even in the scheme of superyacht costs.
I actually thought that sounded a bit cheap to be honest.
Its really a factor of low/no production rates and engineering hours.

A 10MW wind turbine comes in at about £10 million, the blades which are ~100m long each come in at around £1 million for all three.
Aren't we comparing steel to carbon fibre/exotic construction? Although I agree re the bespoke one off nature
The blades on a wind turbine are generally a mixture of carbon fiber and fiber glass, they obviously have to be very high integrity as the cantilever and CF loads on them are massive. It is very comparable to a stretched racing yacht hull, the difference is that a wind turbine manufacturer knocks out a new blade every 1-2 days.

Agreed, I could 'cope from the bridge astern - but not the metres in front.

If you want ' functional' and Expedition - I give you the REV

I was in the Vard offices late last year and the model in the foyer was magnificent. They said we can go visit the build when we return (except Covid ffs)

Not as indicated by Vard at the time. They said a Norweigen.

Google says : REV Ocean is the flagship of Norwegian billionaire businessman Kjell Inge Røkke
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kjell_Inge_R%C3%B8kk...

"Kjell Inge Røkke (born 25 October 1958) is a Norwegian billionaire businessman.

Røkke launched his business career with the purchase of a 69-foot trawler in the United States in 1982, and gradually built a leading worldwide fisheries business. In 1996, the Røkke controlled company RGI purchased enough shares in Aker ASA to become the company's largest shareholder, and later merged his company RGI with Aker ASA. Røkke serves as chairman of Aker ASA, as well as a director of Aker BP, Kværner, Ocean Yield, Aker BioMarine and Aker Energy. As at 31 December 2018, Røkke holds 68.2 per cent of the shares in Aker ASA through his investment company TRG AS and its subsidiaries.[2]

He was convicted of corruption in 2005 and has served time in prison.[3] In 2018, Røkke was considered to be the richest person in Norway, with a fortune of NOK 20.6 billion[4], approximately 2.4 billion U.S. dollars."

Sorry, I was being flippant/joking.

Clive Cussler is an author who's characters are best described as a mix of James Bond and Indiana Jones - but at sea. They base themselves off a research ship...

SY Hyperion approaching the Needles.

Photo taken on Sunday evening on our way back to Gosport from Brixham.

Last time I saw her we were racing against her in the St Barths Bucket in 2016, but not in my Bavaria 37 biggrin

Yeah really thought the interior was naff and was all a bit jumbled up with different styles etc.

Cool piece of kit though.

Aww. Looked it up, earlier this year at age 88.

fk you 2020. Glad to read via wiki though that his daughter runs the Cussler museum which contains his car collection (for he was also a proper petrolhead).

Something in Caglairi (spelling?) last week which would have fitted the bill for this thread. Very large private motor boat, but I was too busy/forgetful to grab a photo.
