Is this the first person on here who actually owns what someone might consider a ‘big’ yacht? Obviously not £60m but still amazing.
She isn't worth £60m but it is all relative....... I am not a billionaire. At over 24 meters she is officially a Superyacht. (And certainley a money pit). The good news is we have just had our first charter 'Staycation' booking for the summer.Speculatore said:
Just to clear things up. I am not the 'Beneficial Owner' of the yacht. I do have an interest in the yacht as the Skipper, Yacht Manager and one of the Directors of the yachts owning company BUT the the Beneficial Owner is a wonderful gentleman whose identity I aim to protect.
that's what I'd tell HMRC too NickCQ said:
Plus cost of capital for the thick end of a million quid, depreciation, maintenance and so on. Hence the question above about whether it's a viable business proposition or a smart way to reduce the cost of one's own hobby. It used to be de rigeur to own a boat like that through a Guernsey charter company for the VAT savings alone, but I think all that is much harder these days.
I know of a 38m yacht that charters for €110,000 per week. She is fully booked for the season. From what I can gather the owner gets a free week and that's it. Not a money making venture.RevsPerMinute said:
Wouldn't we all, but given current travel restrictions, and as was referenced, he is tapping into the staycation market by having it berthed here.
My understanding is many boats are been moved back from the med at the moment to try and at least get some time on the water this season, even it means battling tides and flippin cold sea temps!
If the boats are British registered, aren't they all coming back so they don't have to pay VAT since we're no longer part of the EU?My understanding is many boats are been moved back from the med at the moment to try and at least get some time on the water this season, even it means battling tides and flippin cold sea temps!
I understand it's an issue for smaller yachts, not sure if these ships fall into the same catagory.
