The last time I travelled by train, I had reserved seats. Manchester to Coventry return.
Going there was fine, 7am train, got me to Coventry in plenty of time for the meeting I was attending.
Return journey was not so pleasent. Train was 45 mins late, the previous train had been cancelled, so was absolutely crammed, to the extent that even if someone wasn't sat in my reserved seat, I couldn't get to it!
Ended up standing in the doorway, having to step off the train to let other off at each station, from Coventry to Macclesfield. I then managed to get my reserved seat for about 3 stops, before I got off at Stockport.

When a group of us were travelling from Rome to Bari, we'd reserved a compartment on the train - when we turned up there were a load of nuns in there - we asked them to move and our Italian speaker got into quite a heated discussion with them.
Then he stormed off up train - and 5 minutes later came back with the guard. After another few minutes and much arm waving from the guard and the nuns, they vacated our compartment.
Still felt odd, getting the guard to kick 'em out
