Amazingly cool and interesting plane footage

I've been posting up on You Tube some videos I took back in the early 1990s. They may not be "amazingly cool" but some might find them interesting. At the moment I'm working through footage I took at during the 1992 Farnborough Air Show which included a large Russian presence.
The link is to Part 6 but there are quite a few other clips. They are all around ten minutes or less in length.

Thanks. The quality is limited by the old Video 8 format. I have some nice footage from a Great Warbirds display at Wroughton in 1993 and the IAT Fairford in 1993 - including the MiG 29 collision.
I also have some 1994 Goodwood FOS stuff.
I'll have a proper watch later. Enjoy these old vids. Not bothered about quality many of mine shot on old Canon Video 8 :-)I also have some 1994 Goodwood FOS stuff.

Is the Wroughton stuff up on youtube, Eric? If it is, I can't find it. I'd love to watch that as I was there. Great Warbirds didn't last long at Wroughton as I remember. One, maybe two years?I also have some 1994 Goodwood FOS stuff.
Have a load of bombers... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQ0nW690ZKw ...including VeRA, Fifi, a Mosquito, and heaps more good stuff.

Not yet. I'm trying to work through the tapes in a chronological order so I can keep better track of what I've uploaded. It will probably be a few weeks before it makes it to You Tube. I'll let you know as soon as it's done.
I'm glad that some people are finding them interesting. The process of uploading is fairly straightforward. The initial task is to capture the original tape material onto the computer by converting the analogue video input into an MP file. Once saved, it is a fairly simple process the transfer the file to you tube. The only effort required is to edit out any schlocky bits of footage such as out of focus sequences or errant recording etc.
I really loved my old Sanyo camcorder. It had variable shutter speeds and manual focus and zoom - which I much prefer to the modern way where everything is electronic and menu driven.

I've uploaded the final installments of my Farnborough 1992 videos (No.13 is the last set of clips).
The first item on No.12 is a Sukhoi 26 aerobatic aircraft. The images of the Sukhoi aren't great but I put them in so you could count the number of continuous roll manoeuvers the pilot did. It's pretty amazing.
Also included is the Red Arrows display - sadly now a thing of the past at Farnborough Air Shows.

Sadly, it looks like my project to transfer Video 8 and Hi8 collection to digital has come to a premature end. My old Hi8 camcorder seems to have packed up.
I'll have to see what I can do to get a cheap Video8/Hi8 player to replace the defunct camera. I'm sure it's not worth getting repaired - even if I could find someone who can repair it.

Longworth Photographic (now opposite Tower Hill Garage) might be worth a try. Not sure what it's like since the move to what looks like smaller premises, but he used to be a good source of advice on older tech and formats...I'll have to see what I can do to get a cheap Video8/Hi8 player to replace the defunct camera. Good shout. I might have a chat with them. I've used them in the past for various things.A bit of light relief from the reports of real plane crashes, here's some R/C bloopers including a belated "kill" 100 years on for the Red Baron.

My camera is working again. Amazing what a well directed thump can achieve It's obviously got a loose connection somewhere.
Anyway, some Blackbushe footage now - also from 1992.
Spot Gary Newman in Part 1.

Nice Eric. Especially the Miles Monarch. Looking forward to seeing some more of your videos now. There's always something in these old air show movies to trigger a memory, or to remind you of times you missed a chance to see a real rarity.
Thanks for taking the time to watch them. The Monarch isn't currently airworthy I discovered. It would be nice to see it back in the air.Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
