It came up in a set of images when I was looking for "The Barrel", yes. I wasn't sure if it was a Tunnan though, or most of one, anyway. It appealed to me, how you could see the engine mounted to the aeroplane but uncovered.

The main gear doors didn't look right to me for a production Tunnan, so I had another look for the image, and this came up...

FMA AI 33 Pulqui II

Only one example survives from the five prototypes built, in the Museo Nacional de Aeronáutica de Argentina.

It would have been simpler if you'd just looked at the filename on the picture. wink

Anyway. File names aside, the Tunnan had a de Havilland Ghost pushing it forward. The cancelled Argentinian fighter was powered by a Rolls Royce Nene.

My first thought before I looked at the filename was that it looked very much like a Vampire engine. Didn't really help finding out what it was but turned out I was right. smile

Interesting comparison with a Tunnan since the Tunnan looks to be very heavily based on Kurt Tank's wartime design the TA-183.

Yes - it was evolved from the Ta183 project.

What's the story there then? Hotdogging for some film maker?

The difference a couple of feet makes - if it had gone down the intake there could have been a whole different outcome (well, not for the bird!).

Is that another one just about to get it from the nose of the starboard pod/drop tank?
