Post amazingly cool pictures of aircraft (Volume 2)

A seclection from today's excellent Old Warden show. It's the first airshow I have paid to watch in a generation. 54 quid for a family of 4 with access to House and Gardens included. Perfect spot right by the fence with plenty of room for 4 chairs and picnic blanket, also close to car. No traffic queues in or out.The right crowd and no crowding. Lots to do all day. Highly recommended.

"I would never HAVE found it".
Sorry - a bugbear.
The Airacuda was a flop by the way.
Thank you. Unfortunatly despite many years of effort, this is the sort of thing I'm unlikely to ever get correct. Sorry - a bugbear.
The Airacuda was a flop by the way.
Has any aircraft been a complete flop in the modern era?

The Airacuda was so bad it makes you wonder how anyone came up with such a terrible machine, why on earth they thought it was a good idea, and how they convinced someone to pay for it.

One of my 'life moments' was taxi'ing solo on to a runway when I was learning to fly and being told to hold on the keys by Tower. The next thing I know, a beautiful Corsair shot 'a few feet' over the top of my canopy, dead straight along the centre line, up into the air and into a graceful victory roll in front of me. I will confess to it taking a little while to recover from my Empire of the Sun; Cadillac of the sky moment. Happy days

The problem with the Airacuda was the concept. In the 1930s it was assumed that if a country was attacked by bombers, the bombers would arrive without any sort of fighter escort - because in that era a single engined fighter would not have the range to be able to accompany a bomber fleet over long distances. It was therefore a general consensus in the aviation industry that what was needed was a heavilly armed "bomber destroyer" type fighter. Such a fighter did not need to be very fast or manoeuverable. What it needed was enough firepower to knock a bomber down. As a result it would need to be heavilly armed and relatively large.
When the war actually arrived, this concept turned out to be flawed and most of these types of aeroplanes were failures in this role, although some went on to achieve some success ion other areas - such as night fighters or trainers, target tugs etc.
The Airacuda never got that far.

Not yet, but the Textron AirLand Scorpion has been flying for approaching 5 years now and they still haven't persuaded anybody anywhere in the world to order one...?[Will be familiar to airshow buffs who wander the static displays - there is always one parked up looking hopeful at RIAT]

This has puzzled me for a while but I haven’t done any research to find out what’s wrong with it. It looks “right”. Can anyone enlighten me?[Will be familiar to airshow buffs who wander the static displays - there is always one parked up looking hopeful at RIAT]

including India who have been waiting since 2003 for their own to be ready, the HAL HJT-36 Sitara could be said to be a massive failure - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAL_HJT-36_Sitara
