Youch. I did wonder what the tarp was for on the starboard wing when I went past on sunday evening (only marveling on friday evening as I went south that it looked like she'd been given a clean and polish). Ooops.

One of the guys in my office flys this quite regularly (pretty much every week in summer). He bought it 8 years ago and has done all the maintenance on it himself. One of only 3 regularly flying in the world according to him and the only one used to do aerobatics. its a work of art to look at close up. I spent about an hour looking at it. Unbelievable workmanship.

Yep with a 4L engine in it. Can’t remeber the name but I have a pic of the engine plate as well.

Is it a VW air cooled engine?

Lycoming 290 would be more usual.

It says on the engine plate (I have a photo) that it’s a lycoming engine. Can’t see a model number but it’s a poor quality photo in a dark area.

It looks like 290?-A

Can’t make out the ? Character. Maybe a T

I know that some homebuilts of the 50s and early 60s used VW engines (such as the Evans Volksplane) but I would expect a car engine would be too weedy for the Fury.

A Lycoming sounds more like it. It looks a bit like the set up in the J3 version of the Piper Cub.

Maybe not a cool picture but would certainly have been an interesting trip if you were there:

If you read the article, I was the chap who is lucky to be alive...

This event was all building to its conclusion as I was leaving the control tower... I had been parked in front of the Impreza and less than 10 seconds from when I pulled away, the Hawk collided with the Impreza,,,

TOOOOOO BLOOOODY CLOSE!!

I sunk a few beers that night!!

First one to identify this aircraft wins a biscuit!

Clue - this is the double V8 starter motor.
