It is a nice aircraft and has an interesting history but how on earth is it worth 5m?
As Eric said, for one thing it's unique. There's also a far healthier number of airworthy Buchons/109s around these days than there were for many years, yet I'd imagine there's a very small pool of pilots with appropriate experience to fly them. A few million £s/$s to secure a two seater might be seen as an investment in the way the Boultbee academy and others have been seen wrt training Spitfire pilots and giving people experience flights. They're notoriously difficult things to land and handle on the ground, so "hands on training" seems a better idea than "here's the pilot notes, have a crack..."I can't help but think that I'd prefer it in Spanish colours if it were mine. Or at least a more eye-catching German paint scheme. Or maybe replicate the finish given to captured aeroplanes by the RAF or USAAF. Hmmmmmmm?
...I'm off to buy a Euromillions ticket.
Just an FYI too, there's a two-seater Hurricane being built for the same reason - http://hawkerrestorations.co.uk/sale/2-seater-hawk...

What would you say if one would stick the nose of a 109G on a Spitfire (that would be an interesting model to build).
What, like this: From here: https://defenceoftherealm.wordpress.com/2014/11/17...
Another thing about that Buchon is that it's been flown by both Bob Stanford-Tuck and Adolf Galland while they were working as technical advisers on the 1968 Battle Of Britain movie. And there are many many cars that fetch huge premiums over their contemporaries simply because there's a celebrity on the previous owners list, or on the basis that it played some part in a movie or TV series...

Never heard of this. Well it does not look that bad in fact! Eric Mc said:
It's a post war Spanish Hispano HA 1112 Buchon two seater. it was painted in German colours for the film Battle of Britain. It was then held in store by its owner, Texan Connie Edwards for over 4 decades before his collection was sold off. It has now been restored to airworthy condition and repainted in colours similar to what it wore in the film.
