Think the Germans might have made a good move staying away from the F35s...although Typhoons are expensive 1/4 of the money will stay in the German economy and all will be built in Manching.

Imagine showing a prospective buyer round and saying 'we did once have to use the loft ladder to rescue passengers from an airliner that crashed into the loft'. They would think you were delusional.

US Navy KA-6 Intruder of VA-176 catches fire on the catapult. One of the crew pulled the ejection handle, which blew the canopy off and this photo was taken just prior to the ejection seats firing.

1941 Mechanix Illustrated article:
"JESS DIXON, of Andalusia, Ala., got tired of being tied up in traffic jams, so he designed and built this novel flying vehicle. It is a combination of automobile, helicopter, autogiro, and motorcycle. It has two large lifting rotors in a single head, revolving in opposite directions. It is powered by a 40 h.p. motor which is air-cooled. He claims his machine is capable of speeds up to 100 miles an hour.”

I thought it looked like the pic had been retouched, but apparently not -

Looks like I will see it at Waddington. Hard to believe I started on GR1 over 20 years ago (Avionics TG1) and they were old and battered then. I remember being one of the first on the sqn to get converted to GR4. They have served us well. Shame they are getting old and costing more to maintain.

Early versions of the Wright Flyer were dangerously underpowered, a situation which was finally remedied by the addition of two 825 hp Pratt & Whitney R-1830-54 Twin Wasp radial engines... jester
