Mishap aboard USS Coral Sea in 1970. While preparing for a catapult launch the catapult strop came loose and tore off the nose gear. The aircraft was on full afterburner ready for the launch and shot forward and off the deck. Both crew ejected but one crewman landed on an aircraft being readied for launch behind and was killed
