It was a two person affair. Brit bombers did it solo.

Mishap aboard USS Coral Sea in 1970. While preparing for a catapult launch the catapult strop came loose and tore off the nose gear. The aircraft was on full afterburner ready for the launch and shot forward and off the deck. Both crew ejected but one crewman landed on an aircraft being readied for launch behind and was killed frown

The B-52 has no ability to dump fuel, so when there is a problem all they can do is put down the gear and flaps and burn gas a quickly as possible until they reach landing weight. A couple decades ago, an entire engine nacelle fell off of Mud Buff (60-054), they circled for a couple hours before landing.

Not an amazing picture of the thing in flight, but every time I come across pictures of the wooden monocoque I’m amazed that it is in fact the skeleton of the De Havilland Mosquito I’m looking at.

A crowded deck aboard HMS Ark Royal. Probably pre 1973 due to lack of RWR antenna on the Phantom's fins
