Seen on twitter

'It was Flight Lt Barton attached to 801 NAS. He was passing below the level of the Invincible flight deck. He was acting as an Exocet after the conflict. The ship maintained readiness on station while we awaited for Illustrious to relieve us.'

Tempting fate. All he needed was a playful humpback whale to pop out of the water.

A bit unfair on the whale. Arguably the Harrier was errant, the whale would have been doing what whales normally do.

I was speaking to a Harrier pilot a few weeks ago who actually flew his Harrier straight into the North Sea doing something similar to the one in the picture - so I reckon Harriers spent quite a bit of their time wave hopping (he ejected underwater).

Talking of which, is there any news about that F15 accident in the North Sea?

It reminded my dad of this Lightning one.

The TR1 is a U2. Having been originally specified as the TR1, it was re-designated the U2R.

And yes, it is a U2.
