Emirates start their A380 service from Manchester Airport on 1st September.

If anyone is thinking of going to the viewing park to see the first one, be warned, they have changed the rate to £12 per car for the day (with upto 5 people in), and in addition to this, you have to pre-book your car in before hand.

Just thought I would metion it in case anyone was going to see it.

On yer bike, its free now, nothing gives me greater pleasure than knowing I'm not contributing to what is now just a profiteering scam by the organisers of the place.(TASS?)
Mind you the place still seems to be a regular lunch stop for variuos constabulary.

Saw an A380 taking off from Heathrow a few weeks back. My god it's big and just seems to float in the sky. I guess not too dissimilar to a 747 but then again.... impressive.

The release I saw said that it was still free on foot or public transport, I know they changed the pricing structure a while ago to charge by the hour, but this really takes the 'p'

And they wonder why the spotters either go over the south side, or go to the pub!

I work in the industrial park near hatton cross. Planes come overhead really low about every 2 mins. When the A380's come over it's unreal how much bigger they are than even a 747. Nosie is deafening aswell! Although i'm not sure why anyone in their right mind would make a special trip and pay to park to watch one take off? bit weird.
Like all the plane spotters in the field opposite hatton cross. Get a life FFS!

Deafening?? are you serious... I am guessing you never heard a 707 / BAC 1-11 / Trident / Concorde etc?

I get paid to watch them at Heathrow too. They're fascianting the first time but after 100+ it all gets a bit "meh" - which Concorde never did.

But I was lucky enough to get to Farnborough Air Show this year. When you see the A380 doing display flying - within the confines of the airfield & up to 5000 ft - that's when you get an appreciation of just how big the thing is. Man Made things. Should. Not. Do. That.

I flew to Sydney from Dubai with Emirates in business class in March in a A380. It's a fantastic plane inside and is very quiet.
Emirates have kitted their 380 out with showers in 1st class and business class has a bar at the back of the plane as well.

My wife has just come back from Jo'burg to Paris with AirFrance in a A380 in Economy on the upper deck and she was impressed as well.

I fly the Emirates 380 twice a month on the Dubai route in business and it is an amazing plane, just a shame that the food service is nothing like as good as BA

Twas at the Oval yesterday and I was quite surprised at how many 380's flew over on the approach to Heathrow. They almost seemed to defy gravity by flying so slowly over the city, very impressive.

Why should people like you denigrate people who have a genuine enthusiasm for aircraft?

And I would suggest that the engines on an A380 are anything but deafening - especially when compared to a military jet or the engines on older generation airliners, such as the Conways of a VC-10 or the Speys on a Trident or 1-11.

I'm surprised you're even giving his post the dignity of a response Eric.

Touched a nerve, probably.
