Just saw (and heard biggrin ) the Vulcan fly over work, guess it's on its way back from Jersey.

Much more entertaining than SAP!

We saw a Vulcan last Bank Holiday Monday. We were cycling near Itchen Abbas and just as we were coming over the crest of a hill it went over flying really low, waggling it's wings as it went. One of those few times the word 'awesome' can be used correctly. Bloody magnificent.

Anyway just after it has disappeared, we were still standing at the side of the road trying to calm down our two year old ( despite explaining to her how lucky she had just been, she remained terrified smile ) ; a bloke in some MPV stopped, wound down his window and asked us "have you seen my remote controlled plane come this way ?" hehe

Anyone know what it was doing in the area ? Some show presumably ?

We were here. Imagine coming through those trees to be confronted with the underside of a Vulcan !

Coming back from Jersey where it had given an excellent display, finishing with a combined flypast with the Red Arrows. Bloody great to see the old girl back in the air!

Can't the Vulcan fly at 500mph plus? Jersey is only 100 miles from the UK so I'm not that surprised.

If you were a little less cocky, you might have "mates"

Sorry mate.
If you were a little less in Jersey you'd see her far more often by the way...mate. ;-)

Ahhh, that explains it. Just seemed a bit of a long haul for a show, given recent financial short comings, but looking at the timings I guess not. My mistake (I trust they're allowed occasionally?)

Although operational Vulcans flew at these speeds, this one is flown much more sedately as its flight regime is restricted in order to preserve airframe and engine life. There are also legal and other technical restrictions on how high and fast it can fly.

Did it actually land at Eastleigh? I'm working about 5 miles away and heard an almighty noise at about half 4!

Anyhoo, lots of people here who don't particularly like aircraft have commented how awesome the Vulcan/Red Arrows flypast was. Pure spectacle!

Saw it from the A34 about 5.05, just south of Newbury, and seen it coming over Alresford on a few occasions at the weekend. Amazing sight and sound!
