I know this is a repost...by me... from GeneralG, BUT.

IT's totally worth it.

45 mins long

Watch it.

I've just sat through the whole thing. Speechless. At no point was I even close to bored.

Speechless.

Pinnacle of human engineering? I think so.bowbow

I had also posted about this in the Space Shuttle launch thread - which I thought would be the appropriate place.

I know, but we end up with the same topic being discussed in THREE diffferent areas of PH.

And I won't "clam" down - I hate when someones "mussels" in on a subject I had originated.

Accept that, however if you feel that way, best to rise above it Eric wink

I hate having to explain jokes (even poor ones) - but here goes.

You asked me to "clam" down (instead of "calm" down).

I retorted by saying I didn't like people "musselling" in (instead of "muscling" in). Perhaps I was to "shellfish" to assume I was being witty.

For 'pinnacle of achievement' I'd vote Apollo 11 (and also 13) ahead of the Shuttle.

Due to achievement all those years of complexity of equipment?

Technically, I think the Shuttle is a much more complex and difficult machine than the Apollo hardware. However, its missions, have, on the whole, been far more mundane and far less inspiring.

The Shuttle seems an awfully complex way to go about fairly routine space activities.

Thought it was an amazing thing when I was younger but as I learn more I realise its an achievement in something that should not have flown and doggedness in keeping it there when it should have been canned. I know the stats are amazing and I watch every launch and think it is amazing but I think a lot was lost going down this route and the Russians had the right idea. They have been servicing the ISS for years behind the scenes.

The Saturn should never have been abandoned and the military told to get lost.

Going to watch the vid though when I get a moment. Still like things like this.
