A catering trucks scissor lift failed which resulted in in a platform / wing interface. This is not going to help the "ongoing" discussions on land rights etc.

So one A380 almost gets taken out by an exploding turbine where as another one gets almost taken out by falling creamcakes

Am I being daft or does that not make any sense?

The highlift can't operate unless the jacks are down so the truck can't have moved, yet the failure of the hydraulics caused the body to drop and hit the wing. Surely the body would follow the same path downwards as it described on its way up and there was obviously no plane in the way then.

The only thing I can think of is they moved the plane forward while the truck was in situ. In which case they wouldn't have been able to get the truck back to ground level until they pushed the plane back again anyway.

The catering truck raises clear of the wing and then extends over the wing. When it failed the extended bit hit the wing.

Aaahh... that would make sense.

Things must have moved on a bit since I drove them.

I bet the truck drivers hope of a Christmas bonus was crushed. He'll have to wing it with the Wifes present.

When an aircraft part is removed it usually has an unserviceable label attached to it.

one of the boxes to fill in is "reason for removal"

one of the best I read was on a wing tip assembly.

it simply read

"lost battle with post office lorry"

I think the funniest i've seen on a U/S tag was 'fat bloke sat on it', attached to a rather rippled access panel. biggrin

Me, to the Chairman of the British Aerobatic Association, after borrowing his Pitts S2:

"Good news Alan, I found the knob from the transponder"

Alan, perplexed:

"Um, where was it when you found it?"

Me, popping said item into his shirt pocket:

"Errr.....still attached to the transponder"

Alan:

"Oh, you silly fat "
