Pistonheads whisky cask
Discussion
Coming back from Newton Stewart, once you turn off the main road (signposted Creetown but pronounced Creeton), it's about 0.9 miles form the junction to the barrels outside WhiskyBroker.
Don't drive through the big gates - park in on the left hand side and walk up to the office that's highest at the top of the hill on the left hand side. Then wait for the lovely ladies to let you in

Do you need an independent (i.e. I don't own any ownership of the cask!) "expert" to help give you unbiased feedback and tasting notes? I put forward my qualifications of being a "Senior" rating on whiskybase. I also read an article by Jim Murray once too.
That's a very generous offer NRS.However, I would also like to offer my services but, being more of a Michael Jackson disciple, clearly hold seniority over NRS.
Sooooooo looking forward to this visit. Having read back through a number of pages of this thread, a number of questions (to all cask share owners) spring to mind. Lefty, I hope you don't mind as the 'founder' of our casks, me doing this post. If we are able to bottle on Friday then the following needs to be finalised:
How many casks will be bottled or proposed for bottling? PPX1 - Peated Sherry - is ready - I think that is a given. Are any of the others close to being ready from previous tastings? Will the assembled folk 'speak/taste' on behalf of all other cask members or do we propose and then need to visit/organise bottling subsequently?
Bottle size: 50 or 75cl (I personally favour the 50 as it means we are more likely to get an even share of bottles)
Bottle shape - Ones along this style are about £2 per bottle me likey!
Saverglass was proposed as a potential supplier.
Label/name for each bottle cask. Basic ones are free. It was suggested we could approach United Creatives (known by one of the cask members I think) for label design. For names, if we don't simply go with the type of spirit (peated/unpeated/sherry/port etc) then what do we go for and do we ask for suggestions by xx/yy/2017 and then hold a vote?
Can we use the PH logo or name? If we want to, does anyone know any of the Haymarket folk and can 'grease the wheels'?
Strength of bottled whisky - from an earlier post it was proposed to go no lower than 46% assuming that the current cask strength permits it. This was to permit a more even share/number of bottles to aid with distribution. At a rough approximation of 80% of the spirit remaining, 47.5% would give 100 x 50cl bottles, 10 per share.
What happens to the empty cask? Refill if possible? If not, it was suggested that Lefty should be offered one for doing all of the admin and looking after our casks. It was then suggested that they could be 'raffled off' to the other cask owners or some other method could be worked out.
Costs - Lefty, we still owe you for the earlier cask movement/insurance - make sure this gets added on to the casks that are bottled or let us know what we owe and we'll bank transfer it to you (I think/hope I can speak for all here).
So what have I missed? Oh yes, do we have a meeting time? Is 3pm too late to meet at Whisky Brokers? Personally I could make 2pm if the traffic is kind but probably not much earlier than that without a much earlier start (6hr journey for me). Do we know here we are eating Thursday evening (assuming we are all getting together). Do we need to give the hotel/restaurant a heads up?

I would prefer cask strength, and I'm happy with either 50cl or 70cl bottles.
If the option is there, I would like a cask... full disclosure: a friend of mine has a micro brewery and he'd like to try a brew in a cask. As a result, he's happy to make a "donation" to the bottling fund. (He'd prefer a non-peated cask)
ETA - If I can't acquire one for him, if the cask owner wouldn't mind he'd be happy to return it post brewing - complete with sample beers.

Right, Thursday is fine. They close at 12.30 on Friday but that's enough time to bottle an Octave (PPX1).
I propose we meet at The Bruce at, say 1pm? I should be there earlier. Say hello, names to faces and all that.We can go to Creetown for 2pm, wander round, have our tour, chat to Martin, get our samples, discuss bottling.
Head back to Newton Stewart, have our drams, have dinner. Friday morning go back and bottle PPX1, make arrangements for bottling any other casks.
As soon as possible we need to let them know the following for PPX1:
I vote for 50cl nocturnes, gold tops, basic labels.
Note that if anyone wants to add their own labels you are free to do so!
I think WB can arrange postage of bottles - these will be at each persons individual cost, as agreed. Obviously, we'll be there so if anyone would like somebody to transport their bottles North or South I'm sure that could be arranged. I'll be taking my Disco so have plenty of room if anybody would like me to take them North (or even store them for collection at a later date - if anybody would like to come up and tour a distillery or visit WB for another bottling).
We won't know the exact price until it's bottled and the duty calculated but I'd bet around £20-25 per bottle outstanding balance (if we use 50cl's. Slightly cheaper if we take 70's.)

OK, i'm talking out of my arse re. price per bottle.
PPX1.
The cask was paid for in full in 2011 at £700. (no vat)
IF she gives 75% after angels share that gives us 40.5 litres which is 81x 50cl bottles. £162.
IF it's 60% ABV that's 24.3 litres of alcohol at £27.66 duty. £672.
VAT is then due on the duty, bottling and cask purchase price (there's a story to be told there but I'm not writing it down here!). Probably £267.
There's a 1/8th share of the transport costs to WB (£100). That's £12.50.
That's a final bill of £1,113.47 between the 10 of us. And we'll get 8 bottles each.
Plus any courier costs you may personally incur in p&p.
