Folks, any ideas on the ETB (estimated time of bottling) of the remaining casks? A rough guide / indication on what people are thinking...I like to plan ahead.

Just saying, I love my whisky, this thread inspired me to buy my own 1st fill sherry cask, I did wonder what I’d do with so many bottles but... at present rate I think I should be laying down another one!

Same as here, it’s fairly local to me which was added attraction.

I'm tired and hungover, and can't work out who you mean... GLG or WB?

Is it still possible to get a cask from Glenglassaugh? I thought they'd stopped them?

The have stopped.

Reading between the cryptic lines I think he bought it at the same time as the group purchased ours.

Out of interest I'm interested if anyone knows a distillery doing Octaves; looking for one to put away as a gift for about 7 years time.

I know Arran are doing barrels and hogsheads but don't want anything that big.

I read Dornoch were doing them.

Adelphi have some ex-bourbon barrels (190l) and Penderyn have some casks too (not sure what)

Here's a quick roundup of what I've found that's out there although I'm looking for an Octave size.

Dornoch were under an initial crowdfunding for their first private casks. £2K for an octave in 2016. Just spoke to them and they are looking to do them again this coming year so I would expect a price hike to account for increases in barley costs etc. (My names on the list anyway).

Also spoke to Penderyn who only do 200L barrels (£2.3K) which compared to the 55L pricing for Dornoch is a positive bargain.

Isle of Arran are doing barrels (200L) for £2250 or hogsheads (250L) for £2950 again puts the Dornoch to shame from an initial upfront cost.

Adelphi do have 190L barrels which would be filled from Ardnamurchan, starting from £2,110 (barrel) or £3,300 for a hogshead. They even offer a sherry butt (500L) for £6030.

Ardnahoe (the new distillery on Islay) are offering 200L fills of their initial run (starting in July 2018) for £7K. No, that's not a typo.

Hi folks - just thought I would give this a bump again.

April is probably not good for us as we are touring for the later half.

If we want to get there just before Easter we probably need to be thinking now for hotel rooms as hopefully spring may be trying to appear by then ?

Or do we leave it a bit later in the year just to make sure that Port is even better ? Cask 4 could be ready.
Any interest in a visit this year ?
I really enjoyed the trip last year - great to see the casks even better to meet some PH'ers.

I'd love to go again, from memory we meet in the afternoon and had a tour of WB taking away small samples of the casks, retired to a local village pub and all meet up for dinner and tastings - they even sorted us with our own dining room.
Back to WB the following morning for bottling and labelling etc before heading home late morning.

Come on let's do it again !

Yes, of course, don't forget there's no VAT payable during the up front purchase - only when you take it out of the bond (i.e. it's bottled) do you pay the VAT on the the original purchase price of the cask and spirit. So you end up with a deferred VAT payment.

Last year I bought a barrel at just shy of 3k at Spirit of Yorkshire (yes - tight old Yorkshire is cheaper than Islay). Its an investment in their business - I live 5 miles away and the guys behind it are spot on. The idea being that after 10 - or even up to 15 years - I get a number of bottles and my cash back - plus an annual sample from the cask.

Now they have first fill sherry at just under £6k. Same idea. I don't want to lay out that amount but am happy to do another 3k for a half share. We are working on this as we speak - if anyone is interested. Get all or most of your money back in a decade plus some first fill sherry. There is cheaper whisky out there - but what they want and I am willing to offer is an investment in a local business, Just enjoyed a dram of Project 1 - a marriage of 5 octaves at under 18 months old - a good share of sherry - at 46%.

I plan to take my final bottlings at cask strength.

It will happen Alex - sometime in 18 - suspect after I have hunted out some German distilleries in the Black Forest - although the real intention was to take the ClassicMerc to its place of berth 25 years ago.

Better listen to MrsMercs and get the ferry booked tonight - only 2 months to go.bouncebounce

I got notified of this one from a German Friend (about an hour from their house); it's on for my next visit; probably July.

Not picked up on that one yet - thankyou.
We have a week below Stuttgart and a week below Munich. Only seen the Black Forest ones so far.

New one I spied this morning. Also on Arran; but a new distillery (4th Qtr this year) to be run and operated by the same folks who have the other one on the island; it would be peated spirit. (50 ppm). 200L at a special price for initial investors: £6,000. Even at that price; they're still charging for your yearly sample.

Lastest cask offering comes from one of my favourite whiskies.

Highland Park - Available only to Innercircle members.

Two choices - Sherry seasoned Firkin (40Litres) or Sherry seasoned Quarter Cask (150Litres)

Reading between the lines it sounds like they're filling them with 12 year old malt (58%) for a final finish in the cask.

Prices - delivered to a single UK address are : Are you sitting down ?

Firkin £5,250 Quarter Cask £15,500

They estimate 50 bottles out of a Firkin (£105 per bottle) or 150 bottles from a Quarter Cask (£103 per bottle).

These costs are for the spirit and the bottles only, not the cask.

What's the thinking on when to bottle them? I've got a share in cask 6 and we're approaching 6 years now. Is longer better? I'm assuming yes.
