Aldi mince pies 'for the win'...
Just incase they haven't been mentioned already. The red box ones are great ... 60-something pence or there abouts. (they also do budget ones, but they look flat, and they also do posh ones in a black box - not tried those).
I'm sure I remember there being a test in recent years and these came out better than the likes of M&S and waitrose.
Not tried the red box from Aldi, but the black box posh ones are fantastic - pastry is just right and they are nicely filled. Done my own taste test over the last 2 weeks or so and they are miles infront of M&S, Co-Op, Tesco Finest, Lidle cheapo, Mr Kippling. Bought half a dozen boxes Saturday instead of making our own this time round. Just incase they haven't been mentioned already. The red box ones are great ... 60-something pence or there abouts. Likewise the 1.5L magnum of Proseco - saw it the first week of December and the shelf has been empty ever since.
However - they are doing a Toro Loco Special Reserve red wine at the moment. For under a fiver it's brilliant!! Gave it to some friends without telling them what it was and they all commented how good it was without prompting them. (Not to be confused with the regular Toro-Loco... Which is also okay, but doubles up as alloy wheel cleaner on a Sunday morning)

Thanks for that tip - will pick up a few bottles. Is there a white one equivalent that's as good value ?dazco said:
Normal Toro Loco won some good awards , beating much more expensive bottles of wine
That's a favourite goto daily beater of mine. However this year I bought two cases of Yellow tail shiraz as it was on at a fiver a bottle. Can't go wrong with either really. Might get some Loco Special Reserve now it's been mentioned!

The Loco s award was in 2014, this years one is different , not sure if it won an award. And in my shop the price went up this year.
The German discounters generally have great value wines. There s a Chateau Canthermale ( spelling not correct ! ) which is an example.
Probably earlier than that, we sold it as our house wine for two years, by the carafe, people loved it. That was from 2012.The German discounters generally have great value wines. There s a Chateau Canthermale ( spelling not correct ! ) which is an example.

Bought a bottle for research purposes this afternoon, £3.75! I'll try it tonight!
I find the off the shelf stuff a bit too sweet, not strong enough, and tbh, a little sickly. Chilling does make it a little more palatable, but home made is seriously better Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
