Financial tangent. Lidl results out, 16% increase in sales over 16 (iirc) week Christmas season compared to last year. Taking market share off the big names, ok much smaller market share, 5% but Sainsbury's, for example had only 1% increase over last year. Groceries slightly more, offset by 1% drop in general merchandise. But essentially in grocery sector Lidl and Aldi kicking the competition.

The current trend around here seems to be to use gas canisters to cause an explosion that exposes the cash machine.

The link below shows images of them feeding the gas in to the machine with hoses before igniting it.

AVOID ALDI!

I'm just back and there's a bit of a perfect storm going on in the aisle of dreams: way too many things you don't need all in the same week.

Wallet raped, and that's in spite of showing amazing levels of restraint!

FFS POST PHOTOS! You know the rules.

I’m under financial lockdown for the next few weeks. So I need my fix here.

(Dropped my boys off at school this morning and stopped at Lidl for Croissants. I’ve picked up a leaflet entitled ‘The Big 99p event’. I can’t even afford that cry)

I need some bananas but I'm bound to come out with a loft ladder and a bottle of single malt I don't need.

A man in Lidl with no teef just recommended the Deluxe Sticky Toffee Pudding to me. Ive eaten this previously but didn’t tell him. I feel dirty. Might nip to Waitrose.

Hmm, perhaps I'll try it. A little hesitant really as I've never made my own before. (yes i know its meant to be easy).
Use a single egg to bind the mince. A dash of worcester sauce and when cooked, a spoon of peanut butter and some ketchup.

Honestly, peanut butter on burgers is lovely.

They're like the ones in the Swedish factory canteen, not much help, sorry. Long time since had any Scan ones tbh, but from memory yes similar, but these are a bit bigger in diameter.

When out of stock we have tended otherwise to make our own, 50/50 pork and beef mince, salt pepper , ground all spice, dill if we have any, breadcrumbs, egg to bind, splash of milk.

Anyway it's the sauce that matters. Juices from meatball cooking into pan, butter and flour, cook flour off, add beef stock, cream, Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Season to taste, bring back to simmer while stirring like buggery until sauce thickens. add meatballs back in, cook another couple of minutes, serve with some choice of jam plus some carbs, e.g. boiled spuds, mash, or egg noodles also works well.

Will pop in tomorrow to see if I can find them. We use the IKEA ones when in the UK which are pretty good but Lidl is a lot closer than IKEA for us, and we come out with *slightly* less stuff we don't need from Lidl/ALDI than we do from IKEA smile

They've changed their 'really nutty' muelsi ingredients, and not for the better. nono

That's not good. I haven't bought one since Christmas; we eat a lot less muesli in the winter as porridge prevails.

Was pleased to see Aldi switch to Mornflake oats a couple of months back; absolutely the perfect size for really creamy porridge.

You'll notice the new blend, it's in elongated packaging.

If it wasn't for the fact that Dorset Cereals continue to align their price per kilo to saffron, I'd be up for a revolution.
