ALDI & LIDL Food and Drink Worth Trying?

I only ever buy two bags worth of stuff at a time, usually one. I don't hold anyone up, and am ready to pay (contactless) at the same time the cashier has selected card payment. Someone paying cash would actually cause more of a hold up than me
And that's before we get to the women who are always surprised that they have to pay. Then can't decide what method to use. Then can't find it in their coat / handbag. Then won't use contactless because they 'don't trust it, ha ha!', then get their pin wrong because their new debit and credit cards are both grey, and that presents an insurmountable challenge. "Ha ha, oops, ha ha!". "IT'S £4.71 USE CONTACTLESS OR GIVE HIM THAT FIVER I CAN SEE BEFORE WE ALL DIE IN ALDI!!!"
In the game of 'choose a checkout' I'll go for the one with four blokes in it over two women, and still fancy my chances of being out the door ahead.
This is terrible sexism and absolutely correct.
Aldi actually sell a special trolley divider that has multiple bags and supports to hold them open, they certainly know their market. Shame im too tight to pay for it...

People who think that rules don't apply to them... off to the Council thread! ;-)
I hope you lose your trolley tokens. Not one person has suggested a soloution to packing a basket full of shopping in a three second window at the end of the till.
Many years ago I worked for Lidl. I have a Ninja packing skill set. Even my kids darent touch my OCD conyever belt.
What does delay me is when the Aldi assistant carries on a headset conversation about what they did at the weekend. Despite having my card ready to pay I like to stare deep and meaninglessly in to their soul before gaining their full attention prior to lifting my card to swipe against the machine in a slow and deliberate movement. I find this prevents being incited to violence.

I am considering 'defecting' to Aldi from Lidl. Lately Lidl's stocks have been empty for things I want and the queues worsen.
I think it varies from store to store. Our nearest Lidl had a really bad spell for stocks on "standard" stuff though better of late, has frequent wobbles on the specials, but you can often find "old stuff" marked down considerably. I've even wondered if they have a consolidation system in place, by that I mean sometimes see non expiry date critical stuff turn up on the shelves in a job lot long after the original lot went on sale and sold out. It's as if somewhere has had a tidy up and say send it to that shower over at x, those muppets will buy any old carp.Yet a newer style store never has stocking issues and seems to have more of the specials.
The Aldi however just seems more consistent though lacks the in store bakery which is a negative.
On packing, we are a hybrid of the arrange it on the conveyor set, have a couple of bags open in the trolley, usually keep pace, but as soon as struggling, then it goes in the trolley and off to the packing shelves. Usually just a couple of bags so with a bit of effort not an issue, unless you get one guy who tries to beat the world fastest scanner record. Regardless prefer it to the Sainsbury's style of fast scanning while engaging you in mindless off putting chit chat.

Arrange everything on the conveyor in order, with stuff that doesn’t need to be bagged at the front - Coke, kitchen and toilet roll, cereals, crisps - then all in size/weight order. Blue IKEA bag opened out in trolley then chuck it straight in.
Snap, yet despite me and the Mrs throwing stuff straight into the trolley, the checkout op still manages to be faster than us. Edited by Phunk on Monday 12th February 12:32

I use Aldi twice a week and Lidl once a month. The latter has some great products which Aldi doesn't, but which are only needed occasionally. A more Euro-treats too.

Same for me. I'd say ALDI is better for normal stuff, and LIDL better for interesting and unusual and 'posh' stuff. The latter has some great products which Aldi doesn't, but which are only needed occasionally. A more Euro-treats too.

Yep - that's what ours are. But we don't attach them to our keys at that would mean I would be permanently wasting energy lugging them around. And we'd need more of them - one each - rather than one per car.
