My local Lidl today. Some staple items not available, no beef ffs, no whole/blue milk, no cooking apples, no mushrooms, in fact fruit and veg very poor. Also the basket of shopping I got seemed expensive by Lidl standards. Hope it's a one-off and not a change for the worse.
Aldi the same, they are making it very difficult to shop there. 3 weeks ago zero eggs, 2 weeks ago zero milk, last night zero salad. FFS

Yep - I try and avoid Sunday mornings as the late opening means that much of the underclass has risen from its slumber. This morning, the customer base was almost exclusively the under-dressed obese.

Yep, Sunday usually guarantees you seeing fat women in leggings so stretched they're becoming see through and the size 24 skinny jeans brigade.

I’m going to beg to differ on this. I love people of all size, shape, gender choice and sexual preference. If you have a problem put your Sunday best church hat on and fk off back to Waitrose.

Enjoy your day. Peace and love smile

I don’t think anyone mentioned gender choice and sexual preference

Could you elaborate - is it an issue at Aldi?

I've been using Waitrose more and Lidl less, not because of the people, just Lidl offerings changed so much to cater for the middle-classes. It's a shame Lidl started out so well but is slowly becoming the same as all the other supermarkets.

Except you can't do a full weeks shop at Aldi or Lidl unless you have a limited diet unfortunately

I'll take this one. It's merely a statement of her neutrality on the usual discriminatory attitudes that many people have, expanding on the appearance comment in the posts above to demonstrate that it's no more acceptable in attitude than the gender and sexuality views that are largely taboo nowadays.

Fatties should't wear leggings though.

Really? That may have been the case when they first arrived and simply replicated the German model (Aldi especially) but today - in the UK - that's nonsense.

They may not sell every last herb and spice, but they sell a more than comprehensive range of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish.

I have a very clean and varied diet... the necessity to visit other supermarkets is rare.

Same here, sometimes i have to very occasionally go elsewhere if I'm looking for some obscure or aldi has run out of something, but usually a full weeks shop is done exclusively there.

It might just be the case that because the aisles are closer together you notice the other customers more.

The aisles seem wider in the new stores, both new local Lidl and Also stores are actually quite decent layouts.

I haven't noticed the types of customer mentioned by some, but as generally sympathetic to the views expressed by Gretchen then perhaps I wouldn't notice.

Having said that usually up and about early doors so maybe that subset of the clientele aren't out of their scratching pits yet. See more oiks in pyjamas and slippers in Tesco frankly.

What's this obsession over the ability to do an entire weekly shop in one place?

For us the days of the "big shop" are over. Fair enough we are not as time constrained as in previous years, but we benefit from having recognised that each seller has some products that we particularly prefer to others. Therefore we go to those shops when we want that, and stock up, also getting the generic stuff at the same time, often timing when it's on offer. Shopping more often? Yes. Taking more time? Again yes. Spending more money? Definitely no, saving lots.

Guess this is a wider trend. It has its risks, but coupled with planning a proper menu for the week, basing that on what you have in and including plans for dealing with leftovers, bye bye big shop, bye bye throwing stuff away as it's past it, hello savings.
