ALDI & LIDL Food and Drink Worth Trying?
Discussion
I thought going in at 2pm today would mean side-stepping too many retards today, how wrong I was. It was like a bad Sunday with the usual aisle dawdlers etc but the pièce de résistance was someone pushing in front of the person in front of me as she needed to exchange something quickly which ended up taking 10 minutes. I love the food but there seem to be more and more wkers shopping at my local. Weekday opening times only for me from now on.
Halloumi fries will be welcome addition - are these a permanent fixture?

I love this thread - It really does confirm my theory that Aldi’s became popular with the “middle classes” during the last recession using it as an excuse to dump Waitrose. Now they seem to think it’s their right to moan about aisle dawdlers, wkers and having to wait ages to get served Halloumi fries will be welcome addition - are these a permanent fixture?
Before very long there is going to be another massive supermarket price war that will blow Aldi and Lidl out of the water!
Long live supply and demand

I only started using it recently And I'm not apologizing for being rude about rude people, it happens everywhere but it's a lot more commonplace in Aldi. BrabusMog said:

Really? From where? If you're about to suggest something resulting from the proposed Sainos/Asda merger, you're showing a tremendous naivety of retail trends.

Try my local one in Paignton! Only supermarket anyone has ever offered to let me queue jump as I only have a few bits or a basket when they all have a weeks shopping in trolleys. And I don't just mean once, I'd say at least 20% of the time. However, when all the holiday camps are full in the summer Saturday afternoons is the time to avoid! That really is a complete sh*tfest with near fights breaking out over the last chicken!

One thing I have noticed, the parking. Lidlers used to be really good at parking, sticking to spaces, not dumping their cars wherever. However since the ex Waitrosers etc have arrived, stuff me the can't walk another 5 feet mob just leave their shiny heaps wherever they like. Still not all bad, leaves plenty of spaces, properly sized spaces I might add, away in the corner of the car park for me to use avoiding inept door and trolley operatives.

If only Aldi and Lidl were global companies with ten thousand stores each, and had massive buying power...They could then compete in a price war with the mighty UK supermarkets...
But alas, they are tiny minnows with a few stores in the UK, smaller than Costcutters and Nisa, and will be bankrupted when Tesco cut the price of milk

It very much depends on which store I visit. The Winchester (Epitome these days of Upper Middle Class) Aldi is horrific, you can't park, and its rammed and chaos, and judging on the hardware in the carpark, its certainly not lower class people who use it! If I go to the Andover Store, which is about a third bigger with wider isles, its a delight!
I was going to mention the 1079, was very nice, and £2.49 for 4, a belter! Just hope it wasn't a one off, I'd happily empty the shelves of it next time if its there, alas, I went back the next day as it was all gone!

They have stretched there brands to take on the middleclasses, which is working but could be risky longterm, some towns have two lidls etc. They could then compete in a price war with the mighty UK supermarkets...

My (very average sized) town has five Tescos, three Sainos, an Asda, three Aldis and will have three Lidls by this time next year.
Aldi and Lidl are - by design - neighbourhood stores; they work to much smaller catchment areas than the superstores of yore.

That 1079 lager is ok but i’m not overly impressed tbh, think i’ll stick with the Rheinbacher. Great selection of steaks today including a harbenaro rubbed sirloin & very nice looking fillet. I went for the ribeye as it’s the only one I don’t ruin
For the price, 1079 is good value not brilliant.Any porter fans should try the wild beer co millionaire beer, bloody gorgeous, but from Waitrose or Weatherpersons randomly.

Yeah, I wasn't blown away. But I don't like larger really, no matter how hoppy. Had an aldi stocked bbq today, gourmet mature cheddar burgers and the firey chilli ketchup went down an absolute treat. The ketchup really improves a hot dog.

Is it bottles or cans?

Couldn’t find it in my Aldi this evening. I ended up with the 1897 Kronenbourg-a-like.

330ml cans, silver. Is it bottles or cans?
Finally found the 10XX lager.
Very disappointed, much prefer both the Brasserie little bottles, and the 1897 stuff.
