I have my own source for eggs....two chickens in the back garden.

12 eggs a week, better than anything you can buy in the shops... :-)
I don't have chickens but there is a chap at work who has a fair few. Miles better than anything from any supermarket. Lidl's eggs are particularly horrid.

As well as the foot long sausages, Aldi also has fresh, single 16oz burgers and the 16oz Big Daddy rump steaks too.

Some other 'holiday' lines making a re-appearance too, like the 'fancy' humus selection.

I picked up the foot long sausages for tomorrow when the weather is better, just need to get a French baguette now as I hadn't taken buns into consideration when buying them !

Not as good as golden yolk eggs in morrisons but the normal eggs in Aldi are pretty weak
Including their free range? Notwithstanding how 'free' that means. hehe

A staple breakfast of all Aldi ingredients for me is two large eggs scrambled, with a slice of gouda torn in, salt & pepper and some salted butter in the pan to begin with.

Does the job IMO.

Nothing beats duck eggs from the farmer's market though.

I used to work at the primary killing chicken plant that supplied Aldi and Lidl and you are correct, the catchment weight went up to 2 kilos if I remember.

The birds they took were the standard broiler, lowest out if all the supermarkets and longest leadtimes as well, 7 days. For higher welfare mass produced chickens, m and s, ocado, Waitrose use high welfare chickens, totally different to broiler and better standards.
Not surprising at 2.75 for a chicken but I guess that's the market for a lot of people and until barn reared is a minimum standard the discounters will to exactly that, "discount".

I wonder how many people check the provenance of chicken in ready meals, frozen drumsticks, dippers et all.
Just so happens I picked up yet another chicken on the way home and...

"All our chickens are reared..blah.. blah... on a balanced diet in barns with natural daylight and bales" and it had that so-reassuring red tractor on it.

So its not quite as bad as it could be, okay its not the worlds greatest but its not a caged bird at least.

Life 28-35 days fed on soya oil(gmo), there are issues of scouring and broken wings but better quality than abroad. I still eat them, ive seen the whole process.

Anyway they had some free range in lidl today, must be new never noticed before.

Tried the Lidl brisket burgers, rich indulgent but prefer the normal burgers.

Health Officers advised about these last year that you boil them first and not eat straight from defrost, a bacteroligical issue or such.

Didn't notice the sausages when I went yesterday but I did see the burger and the steak.

They've stocked/sold free range for several years. MrsIanA2 gets them regularly.

I have a bit of an auto-reject for anything which has BBQ sauce on/in it. It's invariably a very low quality condiment.

Hard to beat a bratwurst in the BBQ super-sausage stakes!

I’ve got both Hen and Duck. I loathe having to ever buy Supermarket eggs.

In fact I’ve just been chasing a hen around the garden after she pinched a slice of Aldi Orange from my glass of Aldi Austin’s (Pimms knock off).

Posting because Aldi related.

bh! wink
Would it hurt her to eat it?

Have you tried letting them have a pumpkin?

I think they’ve had pumpkin years back. Not for a while though. Today they were having worms as I was digging a planting. Hen also ran off with a summer Gladioli bulb. She’s a proper minx.

I’d never eat them though. Their relatives yes. But not my own.

They were better then expected
Bbq flavouring was only mildly detectable
But I did have it covered in beetroot slaw

I’d have them again
