Agreed, even the cheaper less aged cuts like the rump and sirloin are very tasty.

Our weekly shop has literally halved since shopping at aldi, no matter what i throw in the trolley its always less than 70 quid yet i go a bit nuts in asda and im easily up at 120-130.

What are the roasting joints and other meats like, pork and lamb etc?

Aldi steaks are great. Rib eye is my usual choice. The 28 (32 now?) day aged £4.50 ones are great and even the 21 day ones are pretty good. Bought some sandwich steaks there the other day too, and was impressed.

Lidl for black pudding though.

Neither have got bacon just right yet.
I find Aldi’s posh bacon to be very good.

Pork shoulder joint is perfectly good, had it several times and also bought one to cut into steaks for BBQ. I've had the lamb a couple of times and it was fine but I'm not a big fan of leg anyway, definately makes a decent curry. And, the cheapo frozen minced lamb makes a great samosa filling.

Not tried the beef roasting joints as I know I wont like it (I only really eat roast rib).

Anyone tried the Danish Butter Biscuits? Played it safe and have only bought stollen so far.

Agree the dry cured is good stuff, little shrinkage and good flavour, it could be thicker sliced to my liking but not as thin as some....

Their bacon isn't bad, but agree it's too thinly sliced, and given the amount I eat still quite pricey.

My bacon hierarchy goes:

Home cured
Local butchers
Morrison's middle from the counter
Tesco middle cheapy in a packet

For Aldi not to be in my top 4 on such a fundamental food item is quite an omission.

Whilst it's pretty hard to buy a bad pizza in Aldi, these two new ones are a superb addition to their frozen range.

Lovely, crisp bread and really well loaded toppings. Also a third, veggie one in the range, for the social pariahs.

Had the chicken & mango pizza yesterday and it was very nice.

I bought the violet cremes as I remember Gretchen recommending them last year.
The chocolate covered mini stollen bites are great smile

Oh no, its that time of year again... I got hooked on these last year thanks to you guys.

Even started dunking them in tea and coffee (it makes for a very sweet cup of tea!)

Forays into the Christmas baked goods are well underway, but it was - weirdly - seeing the freezer full of the first wave of 'seasonal' food this morning which actually triggered the Christmas mood. By the time I reached the till, I was bizarrely excited at the prospect of seeing this year's Christmas food 'brochure'.

Both Aldi and Lidl put such serious effort into producing seriously high quality Christmas marketing material - they knock John Lewis/Waitrose for six, IMHO. And that's before you even get started on the TV ads, which Aldi has dominated (again, IMHO) for the last few years.

Back to Tuesday humdrum though... Aldi tins of mushy peas... are really nice! And on special offer at the moment for just 16p each!
They're small tins, so I portion them at 1 tin per person, but are superb with a nice bit of fish.

I managed to chow my way through the top-end mince pies over the last couple of evenings. Very good.

They've only got one type of mince pie in at the moment, haven't they?

If it's the same one, I had one and chucked the rest of the box in the bin hehe

Not sure, they were quite well filled, Courvosir VP or whatever, about £1.35 for the box I think.

Yep. That's them. Horrid, mushy, powdery pastry. (Quite a feat to be both mushy and powdery hehe )

Personal taste, innit!

Unless they have changed recently I thought that the aldi mushy peas were poor.they were almost grey in colour.pretty much the only thing I avoid

These were very green! I daresay, as with all Aldi things - the label stays the same, the supplier changes regularly.
