ALDI & LIDL Food and Drink Worth Trying?

The Germans are good at what they do. Tesco became complacent and prices weren't that competitive. A 40 quid shop in Lidl is a 60 in Tesco. And quality really is getting better not everywhere though(veg), choice is the disadvantage. I had some 69p craft lager, Tesco would have been a quid more expensive. I'm glad Alidl are there they seem to be very customer orientated over profits, constantly improving as well.
About the qaulity of veg. Maybe it's different up north where I am but lidl has the best quality veg out of all the supermarkets. Go down on Tuesday (that's the day they get the weeks supply) and the stuffs perfect, proper green broccoli (not morrisons wilting yellow stuff) at Christmas it was all 19p, mental. Maybe it's a store/area specific thing but I honestly cant get better anywhere without going to a "farm shop" which up here stands for "fiver a carrot" soxboy said:

In today's Times too. Fantastic offer.
So, visit Waitrose and get ‘posh things’ up to value of £10, use Waitrose card to get free coffee and Times, then use voucher from paper for Lidl shop.E.T.A. Times acquired, voucher cut out, raid on the 'Middle of Lidl' timed for 10:30.

Certainly the £5 off £30 voucher that we used on Thursday applied across the board. We had to struggle to get 30 quids worth of stuff, but fairly well stocked up at the moment.
(Though I'd rather have four bottles of Alid's Cremant de Jura!)
Daughter does drink but she's an utter snob and would rather buy expensive crap from Waitrose or Sparks than the seen in Lidl and God forbid Aldi. Other places not getting a look in Asda and Morrison's. Used to refuse to drive our Skoda when we still had it too, yep snob.

Don't count on foreign strawberries being any good. If the taste is decent the texture is horrific and vice versa.
On that note, the expensive ones in the co-op are the best I've ever encountered- when in season here that is.
Genuinely perfect.
My point is that the imported strawberries I was paying £2.50 for 400g at Waitrose up until last week were no better than the £1.19 for 400g at lidl. On that note, the expensive ones in the co-op are the best I've ever encountered- when in season here that is.
Genuinely perfect.
I'm looking forward to lidl's price and quality of local strawberries in a month or two.

All supermarket chicken in the UK is produced by 2 or 3 firms. Aldi and Lidl are no different in buying from the same suppliers as Asda and Sainsburys etc.
Any idea where Lidl's free range chickens come from?Condi said:

They're processors, not farmers, aren't they?
Yes and no.They might be contract reared. So 2 Sisters or Faccenda will buy the chicks, formulate their own feeds which are then supplied to individual farmers, and then Faccenda/ 2S buy the birds. They have control over the whole process, even though are technically not farmers. IanA2 said:

There should be plenty strawberries from the garden this year. Fingers crossed.Had some of the basement Strawberries yesterday and they were pretty good. Fresh and crisp. Made several nice desserts.
I’m eating a lot of Avocados at the the moment and but a four pack for around £1.60 in Aldi. It’s one thing I’ve found Lidl don’t equal as they sell either a pair for the same price or individual at 0.79p.
Picked up some of the garden shades paint in Aldi tonight (Slate) at £7.99 as I’ve built the cats a playhouse. I’ve used this previously and it’s really holding it’s colour and weathering well.
I buy all my cleaning products (other than laundry detergent) from Home Bargains and B&M but thanks to Mrs Hinch making cleaning a trendy hashtag everything seems to be sold out!! Any recommendations from Lidl/Aldi?
