Had one of the king kebabs last night, decent portion size and good value compared to what you get from the takeaway.

If it's full strength Lowenbrau then it is delicious and probably my favourite lager. But they also do a 3.5% one which is good for all day drinking at a BBQ but if it's your only beer of the evening can leave you feeling a little bit short changed.

We tried these tonight as a “meat free” meal (despite both me and the missus being committed carnivores laugh)

Noting the fat content I did them with broccoletti (broccoli pan fried with sliced garlic and chilli).

Both versions were deemed to be tasty smile

S, vegetarian, had the pepper one last week, she said it was lovely.

I tried a red the other day, called Gloria, it was an award winner, but I thought it was only average. £6.99. The Malbec at the same price, can't think of the name, is far better.

The root veg crisps with sea salt go very well with the German pilsner in the 500ml cans. Not the bottles. £2.99 for 4 good value.

The beetroot crisps are particularly delicious.

The Rheinbacher cans? Quite nice with salted cashew nuts. I thought they weren't all that until a poster on here suggested to drink them only slightly chilled instead of ice cold, and it was a revelation!

The Rheinbacher cans are perfectly acceptable but the bottled beer is certainly the higher quality beverage.

Large Mixed cured meats platter in the posh range at Lidl currently 79p. Very long dates on them so worth stocking up.

I think these are part of the weekend offers so only available today and tomorrow. I always look out for the half price stuff and make a point of stocking up. However quite often a product doesn’t arrive in store and annoyingly they don’t offer an alternative.

The Lidl weekend offers, if theyr'e good, are usually 'sold out' within a few hours of opening on a Saturday morning.

thanks for the info. although when you think about it being 100g, it doesn't seem like much. that said I've bought myself 4 packets, and 10 cans of hte festbier, 5regular, and 5 weisbiers. i hope they taste good.

as for the cured meats.. i think ill be using them for sandwiches. just need to decide on what bread might be best.

Four items each weekend are on offer up to half price. Scotland often has a different fourth item. Usually a maximum of 6 per customer, there are two Lidl’s in my nearest town and the offers are valid Saturday and Sunday. Worth checking the back of the in-store magazine or online each week.

thanks for the info guys, much appriciated.. sooner or later ill be a regular. (i used to go there for the freeway versions of pepsi max, but they dont seem to sell them anymore).

i've been also drinking the festbier weis tonight. very tasty, 99p for the 500ml and doesn't taste much different to hoeegarden (which much more expensive). worth a go.

Best avoid bread from the in-store bakery (of any supermarket) then. Unless it's baked on the premises, anything which was frozen and then 'baked off' doesn't last much longer than 6-8 hours.

Aldi Emporium cheese spread.

Since being a kid I've always liked a bit of spreadable Dairylea on toast, but Aldi's version is just as good if not better, and much cheaper.
