Arse!! Not online frown

Is it a light Pinot or a real belter?
Light. Don't go near it with a steak - just sit and guzzle it with some nibbles.

I just had it with coq au vin and it was only just matching that. I wouldn't want to give definitive advice. If I had it again - which I will - it would be be with nibbles rather than a meal.

Having said that, I do prefer very robust wines with meals, hence it being too subjective a topic to say much more than just how smooth it is.

I'll grab a bottle and try it with some brie... wink

The postlady put the Aldi Christmas brochure through the door yesterday, there were several items that looked enticing, some 'On sale NOW' some 'On sale 9 NOV', so I went to Aldi this morning. They didn't have any of the half dozen items that had specifically enticed me in, one of which was the XO Brandy. Is it any wonder I turn into a frothing Victor Meldrew? As is my habit I always look for and ask if they have the elusive Grande Alberone? Something which only ever seems to be available in other Aldi's. As usual it was a no. I have yet to purchase this Unicorn.

Tbf, having checked on the website, it does say no longer available. But no excuse for the other stuff.

You're really crap at flouncing. Just stop shopping at Aldi and Lidl; go to the old-fashioned supermarkets like all the other old people.

Full Christmas wine range on sale in my Aldi this morning - including the Grand Alberone. I'll assume that you are cognisant enough to realise that these lines are in the Christmas/offers section in the middle of the store, not in the normal wines and spirits section?

This is why I get annoyed V8mate. Your store has these items, my store doesn't. And why has your store got the Zinfandel when the website says it's no longer available?

Tell me, would you be happy if it was your store with these issues?

They put a flyer through my door, I went, no sale. How?

Another Aldi wine recommendation, £5.07, but that maybe due to Welsh minimum alcohol pricing regulations.

It’s a nice fruity Malbec that can be drunk on its own or with food....

Same with my local store, stocking is ‘variable’ to say the least....

The Zinfandel appeared c3-4 weeks ago.

If it helps, I go in expecting to not get any of the specials and if they have them then that is a great bonus. Good excuse to pick up some of those 1079 Project lagers, they have really grown on me!

The £9.99 Gigondas in the Christmas range has my name on it. Will grab one in the next week or two.

This - from the main range - was the bottle of choice today though.

I recall the Toro Locos being amazing 2-3 years ago, and then becoming increasingly disappointing. So I'm hoping this 2016-badged one will be lick

There were a couple of Aldi wines recommended in the Sunday Times, I’ve bought half a dozen of each, they better be good! There weren’t many of the Viogniers left.
I tried the Viognier - not based on the review - I just fancied it.

Wasn't impressed to be honest - got a bit of an odd after taste I thought. However i'm by now means an expert!

Had a couple of their Reislings however and they were both excellent.
I wasn’t impressed with either of them. I agree that the Viognier had an odd taste and I’m not really in to Prosecco in any case. I’ll save them both for when the MIL comes round.

For still wines in Aldi, I've found that £6.49 is the sweet spot.

Spend that or more, and you're generally on safe ground. Spend less and you're into lottery land (like my £5.99 Toro Loco punt this morning^^)

Agreed, although the Project SV at £5.99 is a good slurper so worth the punt.

Haven’t bought wine in Aldi for ages - pretty gutted to find the £3.89 Toro Loco Superior has gone!

I tried this at the weekend. Gave it a few hours to breath on the Friday. Not pleasant. Was disappointed I didn’t go for the usual Dao. Left the cap off again all Sunday. Quite pleasant.
